ESPN's Howard not a fan of Clemson's 2-QB system |
The ESPN talking heads have been breaking down the upcoming matchup of games on their network this weekend.
ESPN's Desmond Howard was discussing Saturday's ACC/SEC battle with Clemson-Texas A&M and was a big hater on the 2-QB system with Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence. "Not a fan of that," he said. "I mean, you look at Kelly Bryant. Kelly Bryant has played a lot of football up there for Clemson. He's taken them to the college football playoff. In my opinion, when you bring in a freshman, and, before he steps foot on campus, there's already talk about him becoming the starter, I just think it's a slap in the face to the guy who took you to the college football playoff a year ago. Howard thinks that Lawrence needs to 'earn the right' to play even though Swinney has said Lawrence has deserved to play because of his performance in practice. "They need to let the freshman earn the right to even be mentioned in the conversation as a potential starter," Howard said. "Coming to this atmosphere it's gonna be electric. Home of the 12th man. Are you kidding me? And you put a freshman back them behind center. I think the Aggies will be ready for him. I would just stay with Bryant and then if the freshman starts to develop, then I'll give him some rest. But not in this atmosphere, tomorrow night, against the Aggies." What a silly bunch of comments by Howard as Lawrence is not any ordinary freshman signal-caller. He might not perform well on Saturday but I doubt it will because he will be rattled by the road environment but rather because the Aggies have some talented defenders. FYI: Howard picked Michigan to win the title this season (LOL) so take his comments as pure entertainment. "I just think it's a slap in the face to the guy who took you to the college football playoff a year ago."
