High-character point guard signs with Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s basketball program announced the signing of Addie Porter, a senior from the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga on Monday afternoon.

Porter, a 5’4” guard from Lebanon, Tenn., played and started all 33 games for the Mocs last season. She was the starting point guard for both of Shawn Poppie’s Southern Conference-championship winning teams. In Porter’s sophomore season at Chatt, she averaged 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, starting in all 33 of Chattanooga’s games.

Known for her toughness, durability, and leadership skills, Porter played at least 40 minutes on 17 different occasions during her sophomore season. That same season, Porter, Chatt’s team leader, played 50 minutes, tallying 11 points and 20 rebounds in a double overtime win at Furman.

Academically, Porter is a two-time selection to the CSC Academic All-District Team and has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll on two different occasions.

POPPIE’S THOUGHTS

“Addie is the definition of toughness and high character. She helped lead our Chattanooga program to back-to-back tournament championships from the point guard position. Addie understands our culture and lives it out on a daily basis. I believe her leadership skills will bridge the gap to the culture we plan on establishing here at Clemson. As a coach, I pride myself on building strong relationships with my players that allows us to grow together. I couldn’t be more proud as a coach that Addie chose to finish her senior season at Clemson, allowing me to play a part not only in this upcoming year but the next forty years.”
