Swinney camp starts today with offensive line and star power

by - Staff Writer -

It’s that time of year. The heat rolls in, baseball ends and afternoon thunderstorms abound. Welcome to June in Clemson. It’s also the time for Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s high school camps, which get underway Tuesday with two sessions.

The sessions will run Tuesday through Thursday of this week and Tuesday through Thursday of next week.

This year’s camp will be different from what we saw last year. Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class was small in size and most of the slots were already filled. The coaches evaluated prospects for 2019 and 2020, but most of the work for 2018 was already done.

The 2019 recruiting class is bigger in size and there are plenty of slots left to fill. The coaches have been out on the road recruiting and evaluating, but have held offers for many prospects until they seem them in a camp setting. This year’s camp also appears to be more offensive line heavy than it has in the past as the coaches endeavor to add a spark to that side of the line.

It isn’t a stretch to think that the coaching staff would like to secure six or seven more commitments between now and the start of fall camp. That stretch includes the All In Cookout at the end of July and will go a long ways towards determining the direction of the class from this point forward.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the names we have penciled in:
