Clemson’s reputation as Wide Receiver U brought the nation’s top receiver for the 2021 recruiting cycle all the way from Washington for a late summer visit.

Emeka Egbuka (6-1, 180) is ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 receiver in the country for 2021, and he boasts over 30 offers. That includes an offer from wide receivers coach Jeff Scott back in mid-June. The 4-star also holds offers from many of the nation’s top programs, including Alabama, Florida, Michigan, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio St., Oregon, Oklahoma, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The Clemson offer meant a lot to Egbuka.

“It’s a big offer. They have a really great program,” Egbuka said. “I am a really big fan of the school.”

What made him want to take a trip to see Clemson?

“I was really interested in Clemson and how they develop wide receivers,” Egbuka said.

He will also visit Alabama and LSU on the trip. However, the highlight of the Clemson visit was spending time with Scott and a couple of the Tigers’ current crop of receivers.

“The highlight for me was probably meeting with a couple of the receivers and talking football with Coach Scott,” he said. “I spent time with Joe Ngata and Frank Ladson, and Coach Scott just watched some film with me and showed me the trend of receivers at Clemson and how I could thrive there.”

Egbuka says he could see himself playing at Clemson.

“I definitely could see myself there,” he said. “They have a very solid coaching staff, and distance is not a factor. Clemson is in a good spot.”

As for a decision, Egbuka doesn’t have a date in mind.

“I don’t,” he said. “Just whenever it feels right.”
