Clemson ranked in Top 20 of ESPN's 2015 FPI

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson is ranked #18 on the ESPN's Football Power Index after week 2 with a projected 8.9 wins and 3.5 losses for the season.

ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance for a season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is, and projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.

The Tigers have a 20.6% chance of winning the ACC, 0.9% chance to win out and a remaining strength of schedule of 17 according to the Football Power Index.

Clemson's team efficiencies are as follows: offense (38th overall), defense (1st overall), special teams (87th overall) and overall (6th). Team efficiencies are based on the point contributions of each unit to the team's scoring margin, on a per-play basis.

Clemson odds against 2015 games remaining - Louisville (74.4%), Notre Dame (46.5%), Georgia Tech (49.5%), Boston College (87.2%), Miami (49.8%), NC State (65.1%), Florida State (52.0%), Syracuse (82.9%), Wake Forest (94.5%) and South Carolina (64.9%).

The only ACC schools in the top 25 were Georgia Tech (#14), Florida State (#16) and Miami (#25). The rest of the ACC team rankings were North Carolina (#31), Duke (#38), North Carolina State (#39), Syracuse (#43), Virginia (#54), Pittsburgh (#59), Virginia Tech (#67), Wake Forest (#79) and Louisville (#92).

One interesting note about the ESPN FPI rankings is that the SEC conference has five teams out of the top 8 in the rankings.
