Top Miami target ruled out for season

Miami will be missing one of its top targets for Saturday and beyond.

Senior tight end Christopher Herndon suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 24-14 loss to Pittsburgh on Friday, the school announced Sunday.

"Chris Herndon has been a warrior for us," Miami coach Mark Richt said Sunday in a teleconference. "He's been a great player and a great leader on and off the field. He's the kind of person you love to coach. I know he's going to have a wonderful NFL career. It's a shame he can't finish with us because he's very important to us."

Herndon ranked second on the Hurricanes in catches (40) and in yards (477) with four touchdowns, which were all career-highs.

Miami’s been led by its passing game this season, ranking best at fifth in the ACC in passing offense and 41st nationally (258.2).
