Report: ACC to add bowl at Wrigley Field |
The ACC is set to have a tie-in to one of three new bowls come the 2020 season,
per college football reporter Brett McMurphy.
The bowl would be a second played in a baseball stadium between the ACC and the Big Ten, per McMurphy, joining Yankee Stadium's Pinstripe Bowl. Per the report, the ACC will be tied with the SEC for a maximum of 10 bowl tie-ins, which are outside of the New Year's Six Bowl bids (ACC is guaranteed at least one there). The conference currently has automatic ties with eight non-NY6 bowls and a rotation with the Big Ten in the Citrus and Gator/Music City Bowls. Another likely new bowl, per McMurphy, is in Myrtle Beach between a pair of Group of 5 conferences (Sun Belt, C-USA and/or Mid-American) at Coastal Carolina. Because of recent renovations, the to-be-named Chicago bowl would avoid the issues from a 2010 game between Northwestern and Illinois at Wrigley Field, where they had to play to one end zone because the proximity of the wall. After the 2010 football game fiasco that left Northwestern and Illinois playing in only one direction at Wrigley Field, #Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney now promises the teams will be able to play toward both end zones. https://t.co/8IDWhOILft
