Kent State head coach to miss Clemson game

by - Staff Writer -

Kent State head football coach Paul Haynes will miss his team's opener at Clemson Saturday due to a medical leave of absence, a school news release said Sunday night.

Haynes is expected to return in 2-3 weeks and offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will be the interim head coach for Saturday.

"We fully support head coach Paul Haynes during his leave," said Kent State director of athletics Joel Nielsen. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Haynes family as we look forward to his return to Kent State."

The 48-year-old Haynes is a Kent State graduate and is entering his fifth season with the Golden Flashes (12-35).

Interim coach Treadwell has been with Kent State since 2014 and also served as an interim coach with Michigan State in 2010. He was head coach of Miami (OH) from 2011-13, going 8-21.
