Dwight Clark buried next to goalpost from 'The Catch' |
San Francisco 49ers great and Clemson Hall-of-Famer Dwight Clark passed away on June 4 after his battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Clark was cremated and buried next to the goalpost from the 1981 NFC Championship game at Eddie DeBartolo Jr.'s ranch in Montana. Clark's burial has an epitaph that reads: "The Catch - The dynasty began with you." Former 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci posted a short video of the burial site on his Twitter account. "NFL fans will probably recognize this goalpost right here," Mariucci said in the video. "That was the goalpost that was in the end zone of 'The Catch' in Candlestick when Dwight Clark beat the Dallas Cowboys on a throw from Joe Montana. And this is Dwight Clark's stone in proximity to the goalpost where he did make that catch. Rest in peace, my friend."
