Clemson ranked, Beer named All-American in Perfect Game preseason honors

Clemson baseball checked in at No. 24 in Perfect Game's preseason Top 25 Wednesday, led by All-American junior Seth Beer.

The Tigers topped the 40-win mark and hosted a regional for a second-straight season under Monte Lee in 2017, and enter the 2018 season as one of seven ACC teams ranked.

Florida leads the PG rankings with Florida State (5), North Carolina (7) and Miami (9) all ACC reps in the top-10. Division rivals NC State (13) and Louisville (14) made the top-15.

Named a Perfect Game preseason first-team All-American, Beer is set to lead the Clemson lineup again.

"You’ll have to excuse Seth Beer for enjoying the most impressive 'down' season possibly in the history of college baseball," PG's Patrick Ebert writes, "hitting .298-16-53 in 2017 after his sensational Freshman Player of the Year season. Beer poses one of the toughest at-bats for opposing pitchers while serving as the heart and soul of a potent Clemson lineup, as he walked more than twice the number of times he struck out in two seasons (126 to 62) and has also hit 34 home runs with 123 RBI during that time."

In mid-December, Clemson was ranked No. 15 in the Collegiate Baseball poll with Beer a first-team All-American and catcher Chris Williams on the second team.
