Clemson jumps up in latest CFB Playoff Rankings |
It's almost Championship time as teams try to showcase their resume for a possible invitation to the upcoming College Football Playoff.
Clemson (9-1, 7-1 ACC) moved up two spots to the No. 2 ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night by the College Football Playoff committee. The College Football Playoff Committee chose Alabama (#1 seed), Clemson (#2 seed), Miami (#3 seed) and Oklahoma (#4 seed) as the four teams projected in the playoff which was announced live on ESPN. With these projections, Clemson (No. 2) would face Miami (No. 3) in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Calif. in an ACC championship rematch. Clemson has ranked wins over No. 6 Auburn and No. 19 North Carolina State. It also has eight overall wins over P5 opponents and has six wins over teams with a winning record which is tops in the nation. ESPN's FPI outlook on the rest of the season gives Clemson a 99.7% chance to beat The Citadel, 83% chance to win over South Carolina, and 67.3% chance to defeat Miami to win another ACC championship. The Tigers have the fourth-best strength of schedule in the nation. "Clemson has 6 wins over ranked teams," CFB Committee chair Kirby Hocutt said during the ESPN ranking show. "We are very impressed with their win over Auburn. Miami has not beaten a winning team on the road yet." The final College Football Playoff rankings for 2017 is Sunday, Dec. 3 as the committee will select their four teams for the CFP semifinals and the New Year’s Six bowl matchups. The College Football Playoff semifinal contests consisting of the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl will be played on Monday, Jan. 1 while the College Football National Championship will be held on Monday, Jan. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. In the three years of the College Football Playoff system, Clemson has been ranked in the top 25 of all 22 Playoff polls over the three years.
