Who else is tired of reading misspelled tweets by purported

college and former college athletes? Seems like every 6 word tweet has exactly 6 words that are obviously spelled incorrectly along with excessive jargon that gives no indication or evidence whatsoever that an English grammar class has ever been passed or even attended at any level much less college. When did grammar school quit teaching the difference between there, their, and they're? I learned that in the 5th grade for goodness sakes. I know the graduation rate has increased significantly, but is the literacy rate increasing proportionately?

some of it's lingo to dispell the nosey. some of its lack of caring. some of it's knowing but rushing... "I know you new that" some of its a combo and not nowing.
I'm assuming most of it is spur of the moment...folks instantly on gadgets, who knows what they are doing; driving, crapping, drinking, making a baby.

You make a good point about the grandchildren

I actually sat down with my grandson last week and asked what he had been learning in school. His answer was "nothing". So I had him bring me his books and taught him the material he seemed to have been missing. He was amazed at how much I knew about his science lesson. So we discussed clouds at great length. I even included a recitation of "Daffodils" by William Wordsworth which seemed pertinent enough (i.e., "I wandered lonely as a cloud"). And we moved on from there to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". I believe he learned something and I did also. To be honest, I had NEVER done this with him previously.

No one tweets using perfect grammar. It's not the norm. It would be different if they were writing something formal, like a letter, etc.

Twitter puts a ridiculous character limit on tweets. I know that doesn't explain the improper grammar, but that's the reason for the abbreviations.

No problem. I agree. I've watched as social media and texting jargon have completely twisted and ruined proper English writing. I'm only 20, but I've seen it from my younger relatives and it saddens me. If I can't post a tweet without abbreviating or using poor grammar I just won't post it.

This is dumbing down. It is the deliberate diminishment of the intellectual level of the content of literature, film, schooling and education, news and other aspects of culture. It started with Hollywood back in the 1930's. There it is. Rip on it.

Get over it. Yes, you are old; you're out of touch; we get it. I graduated from Clemson twice and I can promise you I couldn't care a bit less about how our players type on their own social media accounts. To be honest, it's kind of embarrassing that a man/woman your age obsesses over 18-22 year olds so much.

stupid. Even one year of college should make you smarter than a fifth grader, especially if that one year is at Clemson. That's the point. Why can't Clemson be different and set the standard? I'm not obsessing over anybody. Just read the articles on TigerNet.

Pretty accepting of all walks. Some folks are good at math and not spelling...visa versa.....not really important to me. I have a friend who is filthy rich and can't spell worth a darn but makes up for it in business sense and personality. We all have our strong and weak points.

Twitter isn't that serious, its just a place to write whatever random crap is on your mind at the moment. People use abbreviations because its quick, and people don't pay much attention to spelling or grammar because they don't care. They don't care because its Twitter not a place of intellectual discussion.

My only problem with them is that some are hard to understand.
Since most if not all of the young college grads that use twitter are doing the same thing I don't see the misspellings and grammar errors as such a disgrace.
I misspell sometimes. I hope folks don't think they are better educated or more intelligent than me because of something as trivial as spelling.

"goodness", your second sentence is missing two commas. I'll bet a smart person who learned grammar in the fifth grade knows that.
If I remember correctly, my grammar classes began in the third grade, but that was about 60 years ago. Maybe times have changed and it takes longer to learn everything one needs to know these days.
