Well we are finding out these current isn't that strong, which is a good thing and nobody is denying that. It was just precaution. They are learning some things on the fly.

“STUNNING RISE IN COVID CASES” on one of major network news. Barely any mention that symptoms are very mild….

I agree. That's the part that gets me. They just want an audience.

550 roughly in SC right now. Not too bad. Hope we don't get up to 2,700 again. NYC is confirming a break in hospitalization rates, at least so far. Just going to be a lot of people sick. But not the deaths we have seen.
I think in SC we peak at 8K cases a day, and 1,000-1,500 hospitalizations. That would be a pretty good decline.

Forgot to add...Hopefully they aren't still hyping that next week and they are talking about how this new one isn't as dangerous etc etc. Maybe it's too early in their minds to talk like that. "Stunning" is pretty dramatic.

A virus becoming weaker and more contagious with each new strain is something anyone who listened to a practicing physician knew by Feb of 2019. Anyone thinking this virus was different was going on faith in the wrong science. It was no more than a political opinion dressed up as science.

If you don't take a #### test, you can't die from covid. The fact they have a positivity rate approaching 40% indicates they are missing many if not a majority of cases. Also, it is fascinating...... South Africa has only counted 90,400 covid deaths, EVER.
HOWEVER, since May of last year, South Africa has counted 277,683 excess deaths From 5/3/20 to 12/11/21. Guess the mobifobi or the papsilab must have also been going around. If you subtract the 90,400 known covid deaths from that 277,000 total excess deaths, you end up with what...186,000 more dead people than normal who died since covid started, from something NOT covid (but probably is). I'd guess it's the papsilab if I had to guess. Even in the US we're approaching 200,000 excess deaths since covid started, and that's people above normal levels who died, NOT from covid. So even we miss many covid deaths. Some never got treatment. Some were due to sub-prime medical care. Every major wave in the US even, has a fraction, 5, 10, 15% MORE deaths during a covid spike, that aren't covid. Some are, others are collateral damage, packed hospitals, overworked nurses, etc.
Source:
https://www.samrc.ac.za/reports/report-weekly-deaths-south-africaReport on Weekly Deaths in South Africa In the context of the emerging COVID-19 pandemic, it has become essential to track the weekly number of deaths that occur. Deaths recorded on the National Population Register are provided to the SAMRC on a weekly basis. These have been scaled up to estimate the actual number of deaths by accounting for the people who are not on the population register and the
South Africa, while better than most African countries, has come nowhere near accurately documenting covid cases, or deaths. The excess deaths show that. There are only 5-6 countries in Africa that can even count excess deaths. So you literally have no clue about covid cases in countries that can't adequately test, and then those countries do not keep death data, period. So when you see those African countries with low cases and deaths, odds are they are not low, but you have no clue. Heck, Tanzania literally wrote off covid. They haven't had but a handful of cases since it started. They're covid free. No deaths in months. They don't even test for it. It doesn't exist there. But their President died from covid, but nevermind that...it's still not there.
Then you have some countries who actually tried to figure it out. Peru is one of them. Peru can't test every person with a cough and fever. They had positivity rates like SA at 40% or more. They had a lot of people dying. How many? The deaths they could tie to a person, who got tested, then treated, and medically diagnosed with covid, and died from covid, was a fraction of the total extra dead people they suddenly had, and they knew that. So they actually did a study and arrived at a very close approximate number, and it's better to make an educated guess at a real-world number than it is to just give the recorded and diagnosed deaths, as you know those are only a small fraction of the deaths incurred. It gave Peru the highest mortality in the world from covid, but then again they're the only country to have tried at least to estimate it.
And this is why Europe isn't buying the South African message. Everyone said wait because South African data is bad. The news from doctors treating patients and from hospital staff is encouraging, but you don't have the data to confirm that, which is why we are all waiting on Europe to get the full impact from omicron before anyone makes assumptions. Denmark, England, and NYC are what to watch. So far it seems milder though. Bad news is it's also spreading as bad (worse actually) than in South Africa. Just have to see how it pans out. 50% less severe but 200% more transmissible nets you record hospitalizations. 20 times less severe, and twice as transmissible means it's a bad cold and carry on.
But I'd count on getting it though. It will run through more people, faster, than any prior variant, whatever the damage. If 150 million people miss three days of work with a bad cold, that's a 1% off GDP net impact right there.

Hope you're okay, man. Seriously. Even a "mild" case of the 'rona can be no fun. Fingers crossed that's all it ends up being if you do end up positive yourself.

Definitely was the case for me. My case was in the "mild to moderate" but the long COVID effects I suffered after it put me out of work for five months.
Glitchy COVID brain is no fun. I literally was worried for awhile it was a stroke or some kind of early-onset dementia; I didn't know what was happening to me. The people who say you feel like you're possessed by somebody stupider and shorter-tempered than you are are with long COVID are...very correct. It's exactly like that.
Thankfully it wears off (or it did for me, after a couple months of running steroids through a neti pot) but it's seriously no fun running around the world with half your brain.

Well, gosh, Tom. There's officially 810,000+ dead of COVID here in the USA, probably well over a million when you add in those 200,000+ excess-mortality deaths that weren't officially diagnosed COVID, and we're likely going to hit that million-dead mark officially before Spring anyhow...but hey, you finally found a "milder" COVID strain so you're crowing.
You're right, Tom, it was nothing. A million dead? Pfft. What wimps we all were.
