What is motivating all of these people? What is the logic of their sycophancy?

There is some truth to what you say.

There are some on the right who refuse to criticize Putin and the atrocities his armies are committing as we speak. They are simple minded nutjobs and I can't really explain nutjobs. Thankfully, 99% of all pubs and conservatives I know understand that Putin is evil and wrong. For what it's worth, I just spent the last hour and a half watching FOX News, and they have been ripping Putin apart pretty much the entire time, and the entire "angle", if you will, has been as Russia as evil invaders and the Ukraine as heroic victims. I'm aware of Tucker Carlson's idiotic ranting, but overall, FOX's coverage is clearly, overwhelmingly pro-Ukraine and anti-Putin.

Not necessarily untrue.

To me, that is misleading and makes it sound a lot worse than it is. Very, very few people actually support Putin or approve of what he is doing in the Ukraine. That is the true fringe nutjob element. Then there are those who are reluctant to criticize Putin because they know that Zelensky is not squeaky clean either. Those people are probably idiots too, but are not necessarily pro-Putin. Then there are those who hate Putin and do speak out against him, but still refuse to worship Zelenskyy. I think it's easy to lump all of these people together as "Pro Putin", especially if they watch FOX News, which is still overwhelmingly anti-Putin. I think the specific examples you gave are pretty legit, I'm just clarifying.
So, "untrue" may not be the right word, but maybe incomplete, or inaccurate.

As tabbyplague pointed out, it is true.

Nothing was "untrue, inaccurate, incomplete or misleading."
The hard part is figuring out what is the motivation behind it. It seems obvious that this should be a pretty straightforward choice between right and wrong with no gray area. The effort to blur those lines is hard for me to understand. Nobody seems to know with any certainty what their motivation is in doing so.
That was my question.

How many Republican politicians actually support Putin

in his invasion and war crimes against the Ukraine? I'm not talking about people who have been complimentary of Putin in the past, or have been critical of Zelenskyy, but actually support Putin now.

I don't know who actually has come out in support of war

crimes, but that hardly seems a proper base line for criticism.
As you and tabbyplague have pointed out, there are a number of those on the right and at Fox that have been quite outspoken. Since the invasion actually happened(much to their surprise) and Putin's military is doing poorly, there has been some cover your ### backtracking going on.

Re:There's some truth: Instead of virtue signal, they pay up

Smiling Tiger®, I know a handful of 'conservatives' who actually pay up (donate to charities supporting Ukraine), but yet are sick of the front-runner / virtue-signalers (like Lindsey Graham and TV talking heads and various entertainment industry figures) who fall all over themselves to outdo the other virtue signalers with their 'Putin bad' talk.
These people despise Putin. But they aren't into virtue signaling, and don't yell "Bad Putin" from their rooftops.
Might be a good idea for everyone who despises the Russia invasion of Ukraine ... both those who do the big talking and those who keep quiet ... to donate to these charities.
Many of you will hate me for this, but IDC: Samaritan's Purse is a high payout ratio charity which focuses their efforts on places which are faced with catastrophes. (Samaritan's Purse is focusing on the humanitarian crisis in the Ukraine.) Maybe you can find another appropriate charity.
NOTE: Ukraine is not some squeaky clean country. This a corrupt country which has an awful reputation for child trafficking, bribery, and money laundering. Despite that, Ukraine should be left to work out their problems on their own ... with use of financial leverage from 'moral' countries which abhor of Ukraine's practices ... as opposed to being taken over by another country. Samaritan's Purse recognizes the 'sins' of Ukraine's government, but also realizes that the Ukrainian people (for the most part) are not a component in the Ukrainian gov't corruption. S.Purse also despises violent change and acquisitive wars. It's OK to recognize Ukraine as corrupt while also pulling for them to beat Russia.

You can see them on your board how pro Russia so many Trumptards are on here. Has it always been that way? What a disgrace! Awful people. There are people being killed and attacked who were just living on peace. Yet there are people on here supporting Putin. Yikes.

Trump is the reason

IMO for the Russian love from some in the Republican party. What’s ironic is traditionally Republicans have hated Russia and in my opinion Reagan’s brilliant moves to force Russia out of communism is one of the greatest political feats of the century.
So the more pointed question is why does Trump admire Putin? I think some of it is that Trump would love to have the power that Putin has. I still think that Putin has something on him. Helinkski just made no sense at all unless that was the case.
And for those who say Putin would’ve never invaded Ukraine if Trump was still president, I agree with that. But what’s important is why is that the case. It’s because Trump wanted to get out of NATO and he was doing exactly what Putin wanted him to do, so why invade with all this happening? It’s not hard to figure out.
