TikTok is evil.

And yet this is "ok"? Again, I'm sorry but all of this feigned indignity over TikTok is misplaced IMO. Just because it's Chinese? Meanwhile, good old American apps, run by good old American companies, are spying on everything on your phone, but it's somehow OK when a US company does it, but horrible if a Chinese company doesn't do it?

TikTok is only thinly veiled as a private Chinese company.

We all know the data is going right back to the Chinese CCP and military.
Not quite the case with Facebook, though you can make a good argument that there has been an unholy and unconstitutional fusion between private/State actors, particularly when it comes to sharing information with law enforcement. But that's more of a debate, whereas the issue with TikTok is indisputable.
You can argue that this arrangement, as detrimental to NatSec as it is, does not warrant a rather unsettling 1A overreach is stopping it, but it's disingenuous to suggest the two are the same.

Meh. We had a "town hall" at work last week

and even our CEO is seemingly starting to sour on "AI".
Last year he had another call where it was essentially him walking on stage and just saying "AI!" to thunderous applause, and walking out. But he mentioned the other day something like "And we'll be using AI..where it might fit in our organization". Now coming from a CEO (how do you know a CEO is lying? Their lips are moving) you can take that a bunch of ways I guess, but from his tone, it didn't sound promising for the AI group.
I dunno...maybe he's outsourcing everyone's jobs with it and didn't want that knowledge to tank the stock before actually firing thousands of people raises the stock.
I'll believe AI is ready to be productive when it can write a simple PowerShell ###### within 3-4 attempts, actually get the syntax right, and not get in an infinite loop of giving me the same wrong error laden ###### over and over.
That, and in pictures of people get the number of feet/legs/fingers correct. Both seem like pretty easy, basic things to accomplish.

There’s no way. You have to constantly make real-time judgment calls and changes of plans, there’s no conceivable way AI can replicate that sort of spontaneity.

There's a huge database of what has already been done.

That's how lasik is succesful, right --it uses previous cases to hone the parameters.
Thats what Ai does best. Telling a robot to do that in M and G codes for medical CNC lathes seems like a pretty easy step, an excellent case for it.

I think there are definitely valid, immediately useful applications of AI. I've seen some promising stuff harvesting massive amounts of data for sorting through medical diagnosis and other probabilities involving intense amounts of data.
But daily use that can be applied by a majority of companies, in the next 3-5 years, or longer? I think most companies are still researching an actual use case for it. I'm not saying it can't, or won't be a gamechanger, but I know in the Super Mega corp I work for..we haven't changed much of anything in the last few years, even with the "AI" threat that was so popular last year an despite the literal dump truck loads of money we are spending on it-I mean in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Kinda like a lot of people did with Ipads when they came out. How many of you still have those? How much real, important use does it get? I can count more businesses that stopped using them than started or continued. Not every revelation of technology is as magic as it's promised. Most aren't.

really slows any adversary from getting data. The other groups want TikTok banned because they have not been able to cut into the market share. The government is on board because of rich folks and they want to control the message. Nobody is trying to protect anybody from anything.
The creators a ban will hurt should have already moved on to the next thing.
I'm no more for banning apps than I am banning books. That is the #### that Commies do. I've grown tired of people being willing to act like North Korea as long as they agree with a certain side of an issue.

refuse to be accountable for any wrong doing.
if you want to ban TikTok, and/or social media for that matter, do it in your household and be done with it.

People making up synchronized dancing and and acting out questionable, stupid scenarios for clicks doesn't seem like the end of the world though.
The end of true artistic expression, self effacement, modesty, human dignity, and privacy? Sure...I'll go with all that.

Jeff Yass is a major investor in TiTtok"s parent company. Richest man in PA. 30 billion. He is a major donor to the GOP at the moment. The TikTok negative talk is kind of dying down some. Trump buddy.
