There are many ways to justify each of the 5 in consideration being included. It's actually a bit confounding so I'm choosing not to care being I have no dog in this fight.

Is like other arguments on other boards. If you think you have to win your conf championship to get in - that the conference is a quarterfinal - UGA is not in and Bama can't jump the rest. If you think 'eye test' is the standard, one or both could be in. No way to argue past that difference in perspective. If the committee bounces back and forth a little on that, they appear biased, and might be.

Bama would not be in the convo except for a muffed punt by Auburn.

Would Bama beat FSU? Probably would at least be favored.
But that shouldn’t matter. We’re going to see today whether the games matter, or if it’s politics, TV, and money. Three 13-0 undefeated conference champs have to be in, period. A 12-1 conference champ Texas has to be in over 12-1 Bama, who they beat, by two scores, on the road, and over 12-1 Georgia, who Bama beat and who had a pathetic schedule.

ESPN keeps throwing up best teams to muddy the waters.

It should be most deserving because saying this team is better than that team when they never played one another is BS. Also, the committee already had Alabama higher than TX, if I’m not mistaken. Won’t surprise me if both Alabama and the dwags get in. It shouldn’t happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Cheating scandal aside, did you see the shiteshow they put on last night?
With their FIRST STRING QB playing, they amassed the following stats: 13 1st downs 213 total yards (FSU had 219 last night) 1.9 yds/rush, 3.1 yds/pass 3-15 on 3rd down Two TDs, one a 5-yard drive and one 6-yard drive (not a misprint, that was their 2 scoring drives)
their schedule? Hot garbage. Makes UGAs schedule look like a gauntlet. Gamecocks could probably go 11-2 vs that lineup.
East Carolina UNLV Bowling Green Rutgers Nebraska Minnesota Indiana Michigan St. Purdue Penn State Maryland Ohio State Iowa
Plus the fact that they knew the opponents' plays against most of those teams.

8 would have been best, but whatever.

With 8 (or more) you're hard pressed to argue that the #1 best playing team won't be playing for the natty. With four teams, you can actually have the best team not qualify. A one-loss or even a two loss team, if they're hot and on a streak, could win the whole thing.
There will always be people arguing over who should be #4, or who should be #8, or even #12, but the argument that the best team won't get a shot is moot after 8 teams. With 4 teams, it's possible the best team may not make the cut.

The thing that will be hard to stomach is if Bama and UGA get in. How do you leave TX out?
Based on the FSU situation at QB and Bama beating UGA, I can understand putting Bama in although I probably wouldn’t if I had a say.
Those lobbying for 2 SEC teams would have the actual games played not matter.
If FSU gets in, how do you put Bama in over TX?

If hypothetically Bamas loss was to another top 10 team that wasn’t vying for a spot then Bama would be in and FSU, w Texas out. The problem here is the one other team w a case (Texas) beat Bama at home. So there is no eye test argument here for Bama. They are out and Texas is in.
Plus eye test for Bama is BS. They should have lost last week.
