The Solution
Jun 6, 2012, 11:36 AM

The solution to all of the problems being discussed on these boards from recruiting, to playing in BCS games, being respected by the other conferences can be solved by doing one thing. WIN GAMES..The ACC can also solve it's problem of being considered the 5th best conference and being considered by others as a 2nd tier football school and that is... WIN MORE GAMES. Stop complaining about the Commissioner in North Carolina, stop complaining about the SEC stealing recruits, stop complaining about the BCS officials just worry about WINNING MORE GAMES....the SEC is in the position of power because they WIN GAMES....so stop all of the other whining and complaining and WIN GAMES and the rest will work itself out.

So if we can convince schools like Duke and their fans football matters and to start winning, then we can solve our problems?

A trip to the CUSA's #2 Bowl.

Clemson went 10-4 and earned a trip to the Orange Bowl.
The ACC is not the CUSA. No point in arguing that.

They went to the ticket freakin city bowl.
The ACC is becoming CUSA. There is point in arguing that. Winning doesn't cure all as the cliche goes. Winning doesn't cure the lack of respect for beating teams in a $hitty conferency.

The ACC is not the CUSA

The CUSA last year had 4 teams with more than 5 wins. The ACC had 4 teams with less than 6 wins.
That is just nonsense.
Anyway I'm done responding until you come up with a real argument.

It's a chicken and egg argument...

Which came first... the wins or the money?
I would argue the money came first, then the wins. So, if you want to win, you need more money. If you want more money, you need to go to the Big XII.

How do you motivate those on welfare to get off it, when there are no benefit terms defined?
"Win Games" is a nice phrase, but it's not an actionable solution we can take. What we can do is change the incentive structure so that other conference members place equal importance on football. Also, strength of schedule is as much of a perception as it is a reality that impacts how you are viewed by the general public.
Therefore: 1. Change conference member revenue payouts based on seasonal performance. 2. Link bowl payouts to teams participating in and winning those games. 3. Monetary incentives for teams who win their out of conference games. 4. Revisit scheduling. Ensure bye weeks or cupcakes are scheduled the week prior to any out of conference opponent of mass (e.g. SEC opponents, etc).
Once the Wakes and the Dukes start to realize they are running out of money, they will be forced to change their emphasis, or their other sports will suffer and their membership may become in jeopardy.

Continuing your analogy: But then there are the situations where the only way to get off assistance is to change your surroundings and the people you associate with.

That's right. Hence the membership being in jeopardy part.
