The best thing that I've done for myself in a long time is..

getting back into martial arts. I took a short hiatus, but have now returned. Since starting back I have been taking it slow, but I have already noticed a marked difference in my cardio, as well as my state of mind. I am now in a mental space where things like college sports and dumb responses on a message board do not upset me like they might upset others. I don't monitor my blood pressure, but if I did, I think I would be pleased with the results I am seeing.

I was not as athletic as you, but did join the Clemson Taekwondo Club. It was too hard, doing pushups on my knuckles. It was no fun. I dropped that and joined the club for flower arranging. It was very satisfying.

You are right rgby83®... I do quite a lot of framing of watercolors for a artists. She uses lots of water on parts of the painting and won't condition the paper beforehand. The artists are always asking me to reduce the cost of framing so these days I stick her stuff down to ArtCare Restore, cut a window mount and stick both into a glazed frame with no backing board. I then use white lick-and-stick to finish off the back. It's quick, neat and cheap.
So far I've had no problems with the artwork buckling or going wavy - which used to be the problem - but I've only been using ArtCare Restore for a couple of months so it's early days. This work is my passion...

I think it's called a 'Gi'?
I can barely remember the days of having to be taught how to fight. But I do remember Master Splinter made me cut my toenails every time I walked into the door. So socks actually make a lot of sense for multiple safety points!

Martial arts are very good for self protection but I chose to go to Glock, Smith and Wesson and AR15. Only exercise I get there is my finger.

I started yoga a few years ago b/c of a back and shoulder injury. Weights just didn't feel right anymore. I wouldn't call myself a yogi but the practice has definitely spilled over into my personal life. I am much more focused and calm under pressure. It took me a while to notice as I didn't set out to get those benefits but its does a lot for you.
Similar benefits of Martial Arts for sure.

This is terrible, even dangerous. Everyone knows the only accurate measure of any kind of health is “Bench Press Max”.

I never did martial arts professionally, though I did like to dress the part and look in the mirror a lot in the mid '70s. My weapon of choice was nunchucks.
