The ACC should drop WF

There is no way a school w/ 1700 undergrad and a horrible athletic program should be in a BCS conference. There are many better options to replace them with. They drain the conference financially and if they happen to be good in football one year we lose bowl tie-ins b/c no one wants 4000 fans from a school at the game. I really have a hard time finding anything meaningful Wake contribues besides an extra home game when we play in Winston Salem.

With the exception of football, I think WF fits well into the ACC. They have a one billion dollar endowment and can afford to do whatever they please if they wanted to invest in a better football program. But I agree that they drag the ACC down with football.

heard the same across the nation among the ACC and other conferences over the years about weaker programs.
My caution would be twofold: I don't want Clemson to adopt an arrogant stance against other schools or programs, for I remember well the Tobacco Road attitudes about both Clemson and South Carolina for many years. They arrogantly considered both to be red-headed step-children, even though Clemson once dominated the ACC in football.
Secondly, Wake Forest stood solidly in Clemson's corner, even to the point of walking out of discussions, when the ACC sought to impose additional penalties in the 1980's. Their coaches, teams and fans have been amongst the most cordial over the years, and their program has occasionally given us fits on the gridiron.
Simply, there is little chance that any one conference will be only comprised of national title contenders in football. Thus, there will be Wake Forest's in every conference....I'm just happy that the ACC has such a fine institution and an old Clemson friend like Wake.

discussions when first introduced. Later, during a final vote I believe the pressures exerted against both plus NC State were too much, and all three consequently supported the resolution. Those pressures, most believed at the time, were largely exerted by UNC, Duke and Virginia. The fact that State is part of the NC university system is what I believe forced their vote.

walked out on the discussions to add to Clemson's early '80s sanctions.
Clemson twice appealed the 3rd year of sanctions that the ACC handed down. The first appeal was voted down 7-0. The second appeal was voted down 5-2, with Wake and Maryland voting to remove the 3rd year. I think this is where the legend of Maryland and Wake walking out on discussions was started...

have Wake in the ACC than Miami. Wake has won a conference championship and had an 11 win season more recently than the Canes and there is much less drama associated with them. Wake is Wake, but the U is a bust...

Number of students has zero to do with the 85 scholarship football players. In high school, sure, but in D1 (FBS) football, the number of scholarships are the same for every (non probation) school. Wake has a billion dollar endowment, which is what our goal is. The problem at wake is academic requirements and facilities. They have a very good coach, working with lesser talent.
