Sunday alcohol sales in Clemson?

Like Oconeeans, Clemson residents may get the chance to approve Sunday alcohol sales in their locale. Clemson City Council Monday night awaits a report from Bill Lanham, representing a group of Clemson restaurants, about a potential public referendum on Sunday alcohol sales and consumption. In Oconee County, an ordinance setting a similar referendum for the November General Election ballot faces one more reading by the Oconee County Council. - See more at: http://www.wgog.com/sunday-alcohol-sales-in-clemson/#sthash.El5b2Io9.dpuf

Why not?
I'd prefer if America started walking the walk when it came to "freedom."

Well that's true. But my position is just from a common sense standpoint; there's no good reason why you shouldn't be able to purchase alcohol on Sundays, and I don't even drink.
Is it more of a sin to drink on Sunday than it is any other day? Is it a sin to drink at all? That's beside the point. We can't be "free" in name only and expect to take ourselves seriously.

Reminds me of a joke.

A liquor store was located just across the street from a large baptist church in Downtown Atlanta. After constant complaining from the deacons and his wife, the preacher decided to go speak to the liquor store owner about the devil's drink in such close proximity to a house of God.
The preacher asked, "It's a shame that we have to see this store in plain view after services every Sunday."
The store owner replied, "It's a shame I can't be open past 7PM on Saturday to meet the needs of your flock."

My favorite is probably older than everyone on this board:
You wanna know the difference between a Baptist and Methodist?
A Methodist will wave at you when they're coming out the liquor store, and a Baptist will put his head down, get in his car and leave.
I grew up baptist, so it's okay folks.

Can anyone defend these laws?

maybe I'm missing an obvious reasoning. Would love to hear why it makes sense to prohibit alcohol sales on 1 day of the week.

to allow Sunday alcohol sales due to the Christian sabbath then why is is okay to allow alcohol sales between sundown Friday and sundown Saturday during the Jewish sabbath?
A Jewish friend of mine brought this point up one time - he's got a good point.

That used to ruin my Saturday nights...bars closing at midnight after a game at DV and then not being able to go to a bar on Sunday to watch NFL games was an absolute joke.
I really hope they change this foolish law ASAP.

Whether or not you're for this law, it was always a moot point considering certain adjacent counties don't abide by it. Also, Overtime (below everyone's favorite "deli"), will sell you cases on Sunday if you have a membership.

all the talk about how the roof was going to cave in and it would be the ruin of people to allow Sunday liquor sales.
Finally, after years and years of wasted time in the General Assembly, it was finally put to a public vote and virtually all counties and cities in the state have passed it by now.
Just like that, it became a non-issue and you never hear about it in the news anymore. Sunday's weren't ruined and the sky didn't fall.
