Clemson is decent on their best day. I love Brownell like I did Tommy Bowden. I think he's a great guy, but he's not a great coach. If we're going to spend 60 million to upgrade LJC, then why don't we spend an extra 2 million and hire an elite coach? When the coots put up a giant video board in WB we said it looks like a cockroach with an Ipad. Well right now we are building a fancy arena around a cockroach program. In the eyes of other ACC teams that's exactly what we are, cockroaches. Maybe Brownell could have us towards the top of another conference like the PAC-12, but we'll never compete year in & year out with the top dogs in the ACC. Sure, we may beat Duke once every 4 years, but we're on a bridge to nowhere.

It isn't on the floor coaching. It's a lack of skillful players who know how to play the game. Some way we must find a way to get a big time player interested in the Tigers. How much better would we be if the Grant kid wore orange?

I like Brownell too

And I think he is a MUCH better coach than that fraud Bowden ever was. Brownell's downfall is that he has very little to work with. He must bring in substantially better talent, and QUICK, or he's done.
Since he just got a big extension, there should be no more extensions until he upgrades the talent significantly and coaches them up to a level where we are at least competitive with teams like Duke and UNC, on a consistent basis. Not just once in awhile. And multiple terrible losses to teams like Gardner Webb, Winthrop, Rutgers, and that awful coot team must become unacceptable.
Huge contract extension, big facilities upgrade... there's nothing more the AD can do to support him. Two more years to get the talent and develop it. If no substantial improvement by then, buy him out and hire someone else.
And please... just spare me the "who could we hire" BS. There's a lot of up-and-coming coaches who would love to prove they can build an ACC basketball program. I hope Brownell turns out to be one of those coaches, because I really do like the guy... a lot more than I ever liked that jellyfish Bowden. If Brownell fails, then it's DRad's responsibility to find us a better coach. That's what he gets paid to do.

Yes I agree. The next 2 years will be critical for him. You can win here. He needs that 1 big time player.

He needs more than one

He needs at LEAST one point guard and he needs at LEAST one center or PF with some semblance of consistent touch in the paint. Nnoko looked like he could be that big man last year, but he's admittedly fallen far short of becoming that for us.
Brownell needs 2-3 impact players ASAP.

true impact player from the time he takes the floor at Clemson. We saw what an impact KJ had last year. An instant impact player can bring in other great talent. Go Tigers!!

Very, very true. It doesn't matter what size or position he plays,he just has to be a guy who makes the plays. I truly believe that Grantham was a move in the right direction

Not mad at anyone but my thoughts only....

If KJ stayed we are top 15 right now and the world of basketball as we know it would be grand and we would all be posting and wondering what seed we will be in a few weeks. But he didn't and the margin of error is so slim for us in basketball. Folks don't realize how hard it is to recruit the top basketball players to Clemson. So what do you do? Go get a coach and pay him big bucks and hope that he can bring in the talent??? It's not an easy thing to do when the loudest cheer at a home game (the one a few weeks ago) is the halftime when Dabo comes out on the floor. I want to win in basketball badly BUT I'm so thankful to have the football program that we have and that makes me thankful. I guess what I'm saying or asking is, how do you get a consistent top 20 basketball team at Clemson? I'm sure if the administration knew the answer, they would take the action needed to get there. Total change of subject.... Love me some decootments!!!!!!

One thing I do like about Brownell is he reaches out to past stars. We need our past NBA players help in talking up Clemson. We may never be a Duke, but we should be in the top 1/4 of the conference. Remember as good a coach as Rick Barnes was and is, he only had one real good recuiting class. Recuiting is the key and our ex-nba players could be a tremendous help.

I disagree. If KJ is back we're basically the same team as

last year. Still no real perimeter shooting, no consistent big, and no great point guard play. Our offense would be slightly improved, our defense would be slightly improved, but we'd still be behind the pack of 5 at the top of the ACC fighting for a berth amongst the other ACC teams.

"IF" so we would have beaten Winthrop, GWebb, Rutgers,, coots, FSU, ga tech, ND, and maybe Lville....... Thus top 15.

You really think we would have won all of those?

You do realize that having KJ would have completely altered the dynamic of the team. Its not like you can just add in 17 points or whatever he averaged. We would have been the same team as last year. Opportunities for Jaron and Grantham would be decreased. We'd probably be right on the bubble like we were last year. Not buying that they would be a top 15 team just by adding a second round draft pick back in the mix.

Didn't say it wasn't true dingleberry, just said it was a horrible excuse.
Players leaving early for the pros is a problem numerous programs face every single year.

And they expect it.....KJ leaving wasn't expected. At least not a year ahead when we would have been recruiting for it. It's not like we have guys jump to NBA early very often. OP did have that 1 kid leave early for the pros....Oglesby wasn't it? He was OP'S best player lol.
