Serious question about Clowney
Feb 26, 2013, 4:20 PM
|
|
why has ESPN and SI and others started to hype him so much? I understand he is good but they don't ordinarily do this. Is it because his name is kinda unique? If his name was Rick Smith would he be getting this hype. It sounds silly but I honestly dont think so.

that clowney is the best defensive player in the nation and would be the first pick in this years draft if he was allowed to come out.
Every year esecpn tries to hype a defensive player because they pretty much never win the award. the last one, charles woodson played some wr and also was a kick returner.

to end the winless streak, and in the process, puts clemson in the mnc game, and ensures that clowney is only in nyc as a guest of the ny city touchdown club, the same as the other invitees without a chance to win!

Not entirely true, I'm sure that everytime they flip the burger or pump a gallon of unleaded they silently give USuCks the credit for what they have become.

Clowney was being talked as a 1st round pick this year- if he went out - and this is his 2nd year of college football.
Bowers was a great player- but he wasn't being talked about as a clear #1 pick had he left college as a sophomore. It wasn't even an issue - no one was talking about that.

his NFL status.
Clowney has been talked about as the 1 pick this year- as a sophomore- had he been able to come out.
That was never the case with Bowers. Sorry, but it simply wasn't - and that's very clear despite your bias against him.

Definitely agree...without the clown scar has losses to us,Tenn,Michigan, and probably Vandy. When he leaves scar goes back to winning 608 games/year.

Because he is the best defensive player in the country and the future #1 pick in next years draft. As much as I hate Carolina Clowney's talent is undeniable and If only he would have put on a Tiger hat on NSD two years ago instead of the chicken hat I think we have an undefeated regular season last year and are playing in the National title game instead of Alabama.

you forgot "in the nation".
13 sacks 23.5 TFL
Those are good stats.
Also kinda funny that a Clemson fan that saw Clowney get 4.5 sacks in their own stadium is trying to downplay Clowney's talent and ability

I doubt Clowney will even come close to his 2012 stats, but neither will Tajh, or Manziel, for that matter. Everyone will scheme for them and make sure they don't beat you.

Reality check
Feb 27, 2013, 3:44 PM
|
|
Clowney is a very good college football player, not trying to say he is not, but there is no way in he!! he wins the Heisman next year! Remember a defensive player got beat out again this year, and it was a FRESHMAN offensive player. I'm sure someone else mentioned that the last defensive player to win the Heisman, Charles Woodson, also played a little receiver and he was a return man. In order for Clowney to win the Heisman, he needs to have about 5 INTs returned for touchdowns, 100+ tackles, and a good many fumbles recovered for touchdowns. Defense may win championships, but offense and it's players put butts in seats and make the school $$$$$. Clowney is not a Heisman winner.

but i think hell get invited if he puts up only slightly better numbers than he had this year.
to win hed need 20+sacks, 30+TFL, 5+FF, and a touchdown or two. He'd also need some game-changing plays and a "Heisman moment"

People come to see a freak. O or D. Clowney helps sell seats. Ya keeping waiting on the moment. Guy delivers. Doubt he gets the Heisman but.....danged if he isn't fun to watch.
