Remember What Urban Myer Said About Clemson?
Dec 8, 2013, 6:43 AM
|
|
“I remember when I was coaching down at Florida, we would always lose kids in recruiting battles to Clemson. I would tell my coaches that we shouldn't be losing kids to Clemson. Charlie Strong responded ‘coach have you ever actually been to Clemson?’ I hadn’t but I’ll tell you what, I’ve been here now and I get it. This is an exceptional, special place.”
I still remember his comments when he called the Auburn game...
Urban Myer also commented in that game that Clemson should be playing in more BCS bowls with what we have here.....How true his comments are.
Now let's beat the stuffing out of him!

Remember the only time Clemson played and beat OSU in the Gator Bowl? That game went down in the history books, thanks to Woody Hayes.

finishes to a game that I can remember.
Oddly enough, few knew what had happened, even the announcers until a short time lapsed. It was just inconceivable that a coach would attack a player in that manner. Clemson people were ready to invade Ohio and lynch Hayes only to be trumped by the OSU administration.
Too bad TNet wasn't around then....The younger crowd couldn't begin to imagine the vitriol and venom spewing forth from Clemson fans, which admittedly, I contributed to in generous quantities. To this day I despise that SOB Hayes....

Hartins, it was a historic few seconds. OSU fans sucked in their breath when it happened. They knew life in Ohio had changed when Woody threw that punch. He was a god in Ohio having coached there for decades in his colorful way. The announcer was Keith Jackson and he missed it. He said the media gave him heck for years because of that.

By the way, that historic event should add to the ratings for this game. TV will play it up big.

Watched it on You Tube yesterday. Still can't believe Jackson didn't see what happened. I had forgot that Willie Underwood got hit by somebody. They thought it was Perry Tuttle, but it was Willie.

and if I could have crawled through the TV to old Woody then, well, I'd probably be waiting in line when I got there....
TV announcers, if I remember correctly, didn't say much at all about it in the moment. Probably in shock and didn't really know what to say. Or, they did and I was so mad I didn't catch it.

Didn't fog roll in making it almost impossible to see anything on the field from the press box? Also, I think Charlie lives in Ohio now.

My dad (class of 49) had taken all of us to the game. I will never forget him seeing it and beginning to shout - "He hit that boy !"
What a night ! What a memory of my forever orange dad.

I said a few other words than "He hit that boy!" I had been married less than a week, and it kind of shocked my wife to hear me say some of the words that came out of my mouth.

The sports media will hype that I am sure. the Last meeting and an end to an era. They will want revenge. I just Clemson wants to play. OSU got outplayed by MSU last night.

The first wave of media folks missed it as well....

It took forever to get from the press box to the field, and several "savvy" reporters and film crews had already left the press box for the elevators with 2 minutes to go.
Usually, when post-game press questions include "What happened on that play?" the reporters are trying to get insight into what a coach or player was thinking at the time. In this case, many were literally asking "What the heck happened?" Danny wasn't saying and Woody wasn't there, and there wasn't near the replay capability we have now, so it remained a bit of a mystery more than a coverup.
