If we viewed the GOP primary results as Trump being an...

incumbent President, would his results really be that impressive?
As discussed on here before, I think Trump is an effective incumbent, at least in terms of analyzing the data in modern political context.
Roughly 1/3 of his party, so far, want someone else to be the nominee. The question is how many of these voters are never Trumpers or will hold their nose and vote for him if it's Trump v Biden.
Frankly, I don't think the primary results bode well for him in the general.
If Biden is top of Dem ticket and Trump is top of GOP ticket, there is a HUGE lane open for No Labels to run a fiscal conservative that believes in improving border security/immigration reform and is not "woke" in nature.

I will not be voting for Trump in the general

Won't vote for Biden. Don't know who I'll vote for at this point, because it really won't matter except as a protest vote, which is the intention at this time. That, and I can't in good conscience (and I like to think I still have one!) vote for him. Not anymore. I reluctantly did in the general in 2016 and 2020 (but in neither primary), but won't be doing that again.
If Trump wins, the Republican party loses big time in the midterms and in 2028. Big time. And the country will be more divided and worse off than we are now, albeit with maybe lower gas prices. Maybe that compromise is worth it to you.
If Biden wins again - God help us - but Republicans will get stronger and win more seats in the midterm and in 2028 and set up the GOP for a better run at the presidency - IF Trump is out of the picture at that time. Short term loss. Long term gain.
Pick your poison.

Trump is going to carry SC in the general, no matter what, so my vote will have no impact. That way I can vote for 3rd party or not at all without feeling like I'm helping Biden get elected, which will be a disaster. It's just a shame that it's come down to this.

Smiling has been one of the most vocal people here about border security.
And Trump didn't fix our border problem. He won't fix it.

Yeah - he can't win the general election. Meet the Press had a pretty hard left

leaning round table on Sunday. They seemed pretty giddy at the prospect of running against Trump.
The fact that Biden's best days (mentally and physically) are way behind him won't matter. No Independent will vote for Trump.

I'm certain this is what Haley is seeing, and why she is still in the race.

It wouldn't surprise me to see her split off and run 3rd party.
And why not? As long as MAGA is in charge, she's going nowhere with them until she bows down and kisses Trumps butt, and at least so far, she doesn't seem inclined to do that.
I think there are enough moderate dems and republicans that would vote her in, while the two senior citizens battle it out in their depends for whatever is left over.

I'm holding my nose and voting for him, I also think the current GOP is full of gutless imbeciles who are hardwired to cave in to the left so I have no real affection for them either. The only thing that matters is that the alternative is exponentially worse and if you think otherwise you're either clueless or actually a Democrat.
