I just got tremendous news…..

My niece was accepted to Clemson as part of their bridge program ! Honestly didn’t even know she had applied. Can someone please provide a quick explanation of how the bridge program works and if they’ve had a child or went through it themselves. Thanks a lot and Go Tigers !

I was in the bridge program.
Honestly, it's a money pit and border line scam.
Yes, it stream lines the process of transferring but unless your niece is stupid and not cut out for college it would be money better spent to just enroll at Tri-County and get an apartment.

Respectfully, if she can only manage a 2.5 at tri-county she shouldn't go to Clemson.
I know some exceptionally dumb people to get through the bridge with a 2.8 and get destroyed the next semester.
3.0 at tri-county and she can make it in no problem (not being in bridge)

Unless money isn't a problem. Anyway, I think community college for a couple of years seems really smart. I paid out of state for Clemson. I should have gone to community college first.

Well I hear you get the benefits of being a Clemson student as well and guessing a guaranteed spot. Not real sure what the benefits mean but overall just an easier transition process imo. Like Intrepid said and like I said earlier not knowing what the student benefits consists of going to Tri County straight up for 2 years would save a lot of money. Not sure how difficult the transfer process would be, but with good grades I would not say it would be a big issue. I’m out of the know on the current difficulty of getting into Clemson right now.

overall, CONGRATS for your niece.
And overall i did have a good experience in bridge and was able to meet some people who are friends to this day...but if money is remotely a concern you are pretty much paying the same cost of tuition to go to tech school.
The kids are tri-county had access to my bridge related study groups and other programs

Financially it isn’t an issue for her to attend. I think her grades are good but not great and Clemson has become a very popular school for kids up here.

I was just curious if the bridge program kids feel like their part of the Clemson University “community” or outside community college on the outside looking in

There was definitely a "haha those kids are pretending they are clemson student" from the actual student body.
Its odd. you definitely don't feel like a clemson student but people at tri-county know you arent a "real" tri county student...you kind of stuck out

The program very well could have gotten a lot better from when I was in it.
I was paying about 85% tuition of Clemson to go to tech school and had to pay 3 times the going rate for an off campus apartment that had far more monitoring than the average dorm.
My Clemson degree doesn't say anything otherwise but for myself i probably would have chosen to do a little differently in hindsight.

To explain, she will go to Tricounty Tech for a year, but will live on campus and will be able to participate in everything minus rushing. She will live in the lightsey dorms, which are so much better than the other freshman dorms. They come with their own bathroom, kitchen, living room, and depending on which building she gets, she might have her own room. I really enjoyed the bridge program and I hope she does too!
