Let's get over the blatant envy of the SEC...bigger conference, bigger schools, we can do many things better by not being larger and essentially a diploma mill! Who Clemson is, is just fine with me and wanting to go somewhere else and be like someone else causes a whole bunch of crap that is not necessary...let Disney pat them on the back...CLEMSON is great just s t like we are! DANCE WITH WHO BRUNG YOU!

I don't envy the SEC. I do not want to be a part of that conference. I would be glad to stay in the ACC but for the disadvantageous position it finds itself in, due in equal parts to the SEC, B1G, NCAA and ACC leadership. The ACC will die in due course and I don't want Clemson athletics to die or severely decline with it. This is not a suicide pact. So, if we have to go somewhere to thrive, which I think is inevitable, I would prefer the B1G.
As for the SEC, I do not envy it. But I admittedly take a great deal of satisfaction, joy even, watching it's annual exposure and collapse in the NCAAT after listening to the media and the SEC leadership and fans tell us all year it has taken over as the top bball conference.

You're not wrong. Clemson will be able to do many things w/o affiliation with a bigger conference. Competing for football championships is probably not one of them. As long as you accept that, all will be well.

For a while. But at some point the money differential will affect the other sports as well. In the next round of negotiations the SEC and B1G will "offer" to split the CFP money with 66% of it going to them. And so it will continue until they form their own division with their own championships and everyone else will be relegated to 2nd or 3rd tier status in their own divisions with their own championships. That would have started a couple weeks ago had the Big 12, ACC and ND not agreed to the SEC/B1G "proposal"/dictate.
Make no mistake, the SEC and B1G care not one wit about anyone or anything but themselves. They might let a few more teams join them, but the only way that will happen is if it gets them more and vanquishes the rest of the potential competition. They are out for the complete demolition of the prior system and creation of a new one built around just themselves. There should be no confusion about that. I'm only surprised they are moving as slowly as they are. And if it ultimately is to the advantage of Sankey or his replacement and the SEC to turn on the B1G, it will do it in a New York minute. But it is probably too late for that to happen. Getting rid of the Big 12 and ACC is easy since they were and are weak in leadership. Not so much the B1G, particularly if a few ACC or Big 12 powers end up settling there.

Sankey, like every othe conference commissioner, acts in the best interests of his conference. Swofford was acting in what he believed was the ACC's best interests, as were the school presidents or BOTsk when they signed onto the probematic deal. Doubtful anyone knew things would explode as they did. The B1G Commissioner was acting in his conference's best interest when five minutes after "The Alliance," (remember that?), he was brining Pac 12 schools into the B1G.

Agree 1000%. I am absolutely NOT saying Sankey and B1G commish should not look out their league's interests first. That is their job. My disappointment has been that the ACC had opportunities since 2013 and 2016 to remain viable and they did not pursue those opportunities. Clemson leadership is probably as much to blame as FSU's and all the others, individually and collectively. They simply did not see the freight train headed down the tracks in time, and now those opportunities are long gone. Sankey's job was not to worry about the ACC. That was the ACC's job. And it has failed spectacularly. I admittedly don't like the consolidation of all power in just the SEC and B1G, and think it is destroying, or lessening what was a nearly perfect product before. But it us what it is at this point and Sankey and the B1G commissioner will cut the throat of anyone that gets in their way. Unfortunately for Clemson it has become necessary yo join them if it wants to remain a part of big time athletics and if joining is even an option.

It appears that a contract means more to the ACC leadership than it does to posters on this board (or bored)...meant something when we signed it otherwise our president would not h a very praised it...no ACC administrators can put buttons in the seat at Duke or WF or BC or any of the other members! Sure not Swoffords fault...ACC would be fine without the money changers in the Temple!

It is just amazing how many people on this site live in envy of a conference they proclaim to hate. The ACC is a great conference and will continue to be.

We did not get screwed...if you look at fan support, viewership and overall athletic support they may have payed us too much! Doubt it...show me one SEC game other than Vandy with less than 60k butts in the seats on Saturday...most SEC stadiums seat over 100k...nobody in the ACC gets close except CCC...get over it we are never going to be as big and wealthy as the SEC! But we can still win natties and have done so...recently!

Really? How we gonna pay for it??? Raise prices? Brilliant. I don’t know if you understand what’s going on. We might be screwed. Should have left with Maryland.

We will not win a natty in the SEC! Right now our players get to rest and rehabilitate with many of our ACC foes...why does Dabo brag about playing 90+ kids...we were not playing Jawja, or Bama or LSU or Tenn. You get real as you are asking me to be...if our bunch was as valuable as theirs we would be paid as much...business is business!

fans, sports programs or educational value of a degree from an SEC school.
You're out of your mind if you think a Clemson Grad would swap diplomas with any of that trash.
Honorable mention to Vandy's respect as an institution of learning. Florida is also the other SEC school I wouldn't be ashamed to have graduated from.

Hate to tell you, but Georgia is rated above Clemson to the extent these things can be rated. It is an excellent school. Texas (soon) is as well. There are many degrees from SEC schools that are superior to Clemson's. USC Business is one. But, overall Clemson would be considered top half if the SEC vs. bottom half of the ACC, which is still really strong. We would be about middle of the B1G.
I would not trade my Clemson degree or experience for anything. (I also have a degree from jr. that I am thankful for because I have made a good living on it). But to say the non-Vandy and UF SEC schools are not strong academically is painting with too broad of a brush

According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-24 Best Colleges rankings, 13 of the ACC’s 14 schools rank in its list of the top 100 national universities with just Louisville sitting on the outside looking in.
Clemson is #86.
Five of the SEC's 14 schools rank within the top 100 National Universities.
Vanderbilt #18. Florida #28. Georgia #47 (tie) Texas A&M #47 (tie) Auburn #93.
