If I mention blacks like fried chicken or Asians drive slow or jes are cheap, that's racist now? Is white people liking mayo racist?
It seems we are getting mighty quick to label everything racist.

frequently that people are turning deaf to it. My son is in the 7th grade and all the kids, black and white, are jokingly using the word for everything. If a kid states "I like bubble gum" someone will invariably say "that's racist". "I forgot we had a test today" turns into "that's racist"
Eff the liberals!

Although I tend to lean a little more liberal I don't want to say I am a part of any party because parties with rich old white dudes and without beer suck. I voted for Ron Paul who is a Republican. Not all liberals are Jesse Jackson however and I don't get my panties in a wad about race issues. That is one thing I tend to side with conservatives on. See my below comment that was posted before this conversation. I was really just laughing at his EFF the Liberals comment.

I also don't belong to either party.
I have what some call liberal views about gay marriage etc. I also have some very conservative views.

I was just questioning the other day if the word "Jews" was racist. Seems like just an abbreviation of Jewish but for some reason I don't think that Jewish people call each other Jews. Its seems like that term is always used in a derogatory manner. I could use some clarification on this. That being said, I think racism is in the eye of the beholder. I loved Mind of Mencia and Eddie Griffin and they spent most of their time making fun of stereotypes including white people and while I take no offense I know a lot of people hated Mind of Mencia for that reason.

I mentioned to some co workers years ago that I was cooking chicken wings for supper...And I kid you not, one of the black women asked me "did you just make a racial slur?"
And I'm like what?? I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about. When I found out about the chicken wings thing, I asked her cant white people love chicken wings as well?

And I learned to stay away from that woman. If she found racism in a white guy mentioning cooking chicken wings, no doubt she'd "find" racism in anything.

Words that men say become offensive only when we allow

ourselves to be offended.
I'm reminded of an old saying: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me."
Thus, my advice is to consider the source, for a man who belittles another usually has enough low regard for himself that others need not respond. Rather, those others maintain a sense of dignity and honor, while the "offender" casts himself unfavorably before any society of ladies and gentlemen.

But, I gotta admit about the blacks and chicken thing. I search out chicken joints where black women are cooks. They can flat out cook some fried chicken.
Does that make me racist?

That's because Popeye's rules.
Unfortunately, we don't have one in the Upstate, and perhaps they don't in Alabama either.
Bojangles is way behind 2nd rate, and don't even mention KFC. That's Division III chicken right there.

Yes. Judging someone based on age, race, religion, national origin, etc is racist any way you cut it. Judge people for who they are based on them only, not based on being part of a group.

Judging someone on age is not racist. It may be discrimination but it isn't necessarily racist.

The root of racist is the word race. Nothing to do with age.
Jan 18, 2015, 9:01 AM
[ in reply to Re: Can someone tell me when stereotypes became racist ] |
|
Age discrimination is based on an individuals age being used at the only determination of qualification regarding acceptance into a particular group, job or organization.

This post tells me a good many of you need to look up the definition
Jan 18, 2015, 9:14 AM
[ in reply to Re: Can someone tell me when stereotypes became racist ] |

Of racism and then compare it to the definition of bigotry.
Racism is rooted in the belief (or perpetuating the belief) that a person is superior or inferior than another race.
Bigotry is not liking someone (and thus likely to discriminate against them) based on general group stereotypes or characteristics - race being one of those characteristics.
The majority of the time when racism is used, it is incorrectly used.

I really do not get the whole racism thing. For instance, it is considered perfectly P.C. for me to be involved in "Native Pride" activities. If you go and involve yourself in some "White Pride" activities, I bet you would get a label attached to you, something like the label "racist." Whats the difference?

My kids were taught in school that referring to someone as black, african american, dark skinned, or brown was racist. It's difficult to undo what they learn in school.

I guess all police are racists then. "Black male, White male" get used all the time. Would be hard to put out a B.O.L.O. without referencing race.
