baseball question

would anyone (baseballfan?) want to give an overview of our current baseball players and commits that have a chance to be drafted and what the odds are that they will be back? Like the commits Sims, Crownover, and players like Shaffer, Brittle, Kieboom, etc.?

Not as knowledgeable as baseballfan, but I'll give it a shot.
I believe we can count on Shaffer, Brady, Firth, Leone, and possibly Kieboom leaving. Kieboom may not be drafted very high but the latest rumor was that he might take his chances and leave. The other guys all have a chance at going in the first 10 rounds and getting good signing money.
Sims was drafted by his hometown team (Braves at 21) and is gone. I believe Duggar might be one to keep an eye on if he gets his name called early. Crownover is coming off of tommy john, so we'll have to see how that factors in but I think the latest was that he will probably enroll at Clemson

Brady and Firth are gone regardless they are seniors! Kieboom don't be drafted high because of his average! Leone is probably the most likely of the underclassmen to go and we lost Lucas Sims to Braves! Teams this year have a budget they can't go over for their first 10 rounds so its possible Sims and Shaffer don't get what they are looking for because they have to divide the money between 10 rounds because of the new MLB CBA

Spencer may not hit for a high average...

but he puts the ball in play and is a very good defensive catcher. He did not allow a passed ball all season. He walked 19 times and only struck out 17 in 58 games.

Since they were recognized on "Senior Day", I expect Joseph Moorefield and Kevin Brady are done regardless of the draft. We know Pohl, Stolz, Felder, and Haselden are done because they're out of eligibility. Richie was just drafted in the first round and is gone. I'm a little surprised he fell to the Rays at 25 and I'm also a little surprised they drafted him because they have Evan Longoria at third and Carlos Pena at first. It's really hard to project what will happen this year because the draft is so different. Each team has a limited "bonus pool" that it can use to sign the players it drafts in the top 10 rounds. Some teams have as little as 2 million dollars and some have in the neighborhood of 14 million. Players drafted outside the top 10 rounds don't count against the bonus pool unless they get more than $100,000, and then they do. If Lucas Sims wants 2 million to sign or he goes to Clemson, will the Braves spend half their pool on one guy? Their pool is a little over 4 million. No pick after #50 has an assigned slot value over a million dollars. Whether players like Kieboom, Meyer, Leone, Firth and signees like Schmidt, Duggar and maybe Campana go will depend totally on who drafts them and how much they have to spend. It wouldn't make much sense to give up college for a couple of hundred thousand dollars, although it's happened before. I've talked to Matthew Crownover and I expect he'll show up at Clemson. I think you'll see lots of HS kids drafted after the third round go to college. I don't think you'll see what happened with Madison Younginer happen again, and that's a 7th rounder getting $975,000 unless the team that drafts him is willing to forgo signing some other draft picks to keep him.

baseballfan, do you have any info on if we plan on bringing in a few JUCO guys to help fill holes in the lineup? I heard something about a SS from the HS of a current player that may transfer in from JUCO? Any truth to that? Heard he had a good bat and was a middle of the lineup kind of guy.
Just trying to see how we'd fill some spots. I'd imagine some guys are penciled in at a few positions:
McGibbon at 1st Wilkerson at 2nd Baum in left or IF? Brittle in Center Slaton/Dom in RF? Kieboom behind the plate if he returns. If not, Boulware maybe?
How do you think we're looking (obviously extremely early on) for next season? I'd imagine Gossett is already penciled in as the Friday guy

because he's a football signee, Clemson has 16 signees for this fall's freshman class, plus Shane Kennedy, a JUCO middle infielder from the same HS as Brad Miller and Dominic Attanasio. Here's my WAY too early guess at next year's lineup:
Catcher Kieboom or Boulware First McGibbon Second Wilkerson or Baum Third Jackson Campana a 6'6" guy from Richie Shaffer's HS. Shortstop Wilkerson or Baum Center Field Brittle Corners: select from Slaton, Triller (redshirted this year), Cox, Costigan, Attanasio or Mulkey. Weekend rotation: Pohle, Gossett, Andrews. Maybe Crownover if his rehab goes well. Tyler Krieger, a switch-hitting middle infielder from Matt Campbell's HS and Kevin Bradley, also a switch-hitter and the son of Princeton's head coach could also find themselves in the mix in the infield.

Also you have Garret Boulwares brother sayin that hes gonna play ball too. Thats 2 football players helping out. I do like that you have Jackson Campana at third. I went on his twitter cause i was bored and saw that some chicken fan was tryin to talk junk. If you havent read it go to his page. He just let it roll off of his back. And then another shamecock tried to put down shaffer a 1st rounder sayin he wasnt good. Heres how he responded "I want you to know that I forgive you for the things you've said to me and will pray that Jesus does as well. God Bless." I know that some people are gonna say that our future tigers are gonna suck or some bs but atleast our players have dignity for theirselves and our university. Another reason to wake up in the morning and thank the good Lord above that you are blessed to be a Tiger fan.

I expect that JoMo, Brady Brittle, Firth, Leone, and Kieboom to all be drafted high enough to leave Clemson. I also expect Kieboom and Firth to go in the first 10 rounds.
