Here is what appears to be going on at aTm (based on internet sources).
York, aTm AD was all set to hire Mark Stoops. But, the big BIG BIG g money guys nixed it. (Think of it as a Greg Schiano to Tennessee situation.)
If that is true, then things are going to get really, really rocky at aTm. If the AD can't hire who he wants because the boosters have to approve the hire, then nothing good can come out of that. (Tennessee fired the AD, hired Phil Fulmer who promptly hired Jeremy Pruitt.) I could see it getting even worse than that. If a few deep pockets can select the coach, then who does the coach work for?
Now, here is more speculation. I'm just positing it here because I'm sure Clemson fans will hear it, even if it is not true, in the next few days.
**** aTm boosters want a "big name." A lot bigger than Mark Stoops. They think they can select anybody they want. And, rumor is they want either Ryan Day or Dabo Swinney. ****
My analysis: I have no idea of Day's situation or his relationship with the AD at Ohio State or even his philosophy of how closely the HC and AD must work together. I do know that many fans of Ohio State are ready to see him go, after 3 straight losses to Michigan. He may or may not be interested in taking a job where the AD is a puppet of the boosters.
I do have an idea of how Dabo would feel about it. Given the way he was given the job and was unconditionally supported by the AD who gave him the job, I cannot imagine him even considering taking a job where his "boss" was the booster club.
The aTm boosters need to understand that money can buy folks like Jimbo Fisher (or Urban Meyer). But, some people can't be bought at any price.

Now, what’s your speculation of what’s going to happen to your Noles as far as winning the ACCCG and hopefully getting into Final 4?
I say win last game and conference champ is in, normally.

UL is a lot better than UF.

Tate definitely started the game with the "deer in the headlights" look.
But, it is a rivalry game, on their field, with 80,000 screaming fans. And our coaches didn't help him out the first quarter of the game (which Norvell admitted after the game).
But, with this game behind them Tate and the coaches can learn from it and improve. If they don't, UL will win.
1. Tate has to get rid of the ball quicker. He needs to throw in rhythm and not hesitate and see what will come open.
2. Coaches have to call plays to help him throw in rhythm. He's not Jordan Travis, but then virtually no one is.
I expect improvement next Saturday. (I'll be there cheering, thanks to a generous offer from someone on this board who supplied me with tickets. You folks are wonderful, but I digress.)
Whether we win or not will depend on how much improvement.
If we go 13-0 I think we'll make the playoffs. But, if the committee says "No" well, oh well. You control what you can control. And, even if we finish 12-2 we will have far exceeded any realistic expectations any Nole fan had last August.

The audacity of wealth on display if this is true. In the grand scheme of college football, A&M is literally a 2nd or 3rd tier program with one national championship before anyone was alive and one conference championship in the modern era. They’re a no one who thinks they’re everything because they’re wealthy. I just hope a principled man like Dabo reminds them that money can’t buy everything.

The AD is actually Ross Bjork. Assuming that is what you meant? I think the report by most is that Bjork had made a verbal job offer to Stoops. Billy Liucchi with TexasAgs has reported it was actually a verbal offer. The verbal deal was apparently nixed by the A&M Board of Regents, not boosters. Of course one can argue the relationship between top boosters and the board of regents (trustees) is always symbiotic, in some form, there is a difference. It reflects very badly on A&M if an offer was made to Stoops by the AD but overruled by the BOR. It sends a message the administration is not on the same page. It cuts the legs from the AD. I suspect it makes prospective coaches think long and hard about being in that dysfunctional relationship. I would be shocked if Day or Dabo put themselves in that position.

And, you are probably right about it being the BOR. But, the rumors I saw said it was boosters. (Like you say, it could have been boosters putting pressure on BOR.) But, whatever, I suspect the AD will soon be looking for employment elsewhere.

I could see Day putting himself in that position for 100 million in 5 years. After making that kind of coin he can put it all behind him and quit worrying

Absolutely. And that’s been rumored too that A&M is ready to sign a blank check. $20 million has been suggested. Doubling your salary is enough to make any coach think.

And trust me coaches network and talk about this stuff. You think Stoops hasn’t already given his brother the skinny…and he hasn’t already told Venables, and he hasn’t (or doesn’t) tell Dabo to be careful! It’s just a real “stuff-show” for Bjork to be so presumptuous to verbally offer a job without knowing he had the backing of the BOR.

They can’t buy Dabo. There are people in this world that have been buying their every desire for so long, that they cannot imagine that a world exists where they can’t buy whatever they want. Texas has more than its fair share of those people. Those TAMU folks are about to find out how wrong their thinking is. The fact that they think that they can buy Dabo, is all the reason that Dabo needs to say NO.

Gonna be a long search for those guys. Day is a Northeast yankee that would never survive in TX. And there is no buying Dabo.

I have no idea who will be hired for the a&m job but love Dabo being our coach and really hope that its not him . That being said , if Dabo thinks it's best for him to leave and go coach somewhere else, that's his decision and his alone. I wish him nothing but the best for what he has done for Clemson .
Hopefully whatever the decision is, it's not based on some of the problems with fans because there is ALWAYS going to be an angry "fire everyone" element to any fanbase who's team has become highly successful. These fan interactions will not change if he goes to a&m and in fact , may be much much worse than what he faces at Clemson

Personally one coach in my mind is Freeman at ND. Not sure how it would work out at A&M but the guy has not done a bad job and is a big step up in class for that team.

TAMU wants to buy someone of substance and somehow does not understand that if someone is of substance, then they can’t be bought.

I have said this before, but I will say it again. I have plenty of respect for the A & M fans. They travel well, aree noisy and knowledgeable.
But their athletic department is a viper's nest of booster's who think they know football. There is NO WAY that Dabo would step into that.
I also think that the OSU AD is too smart to get rid of Day. The fans absolutely hate losing to Michigan, but the AD should be seeing the overall success.
Here's one that might work though. Hire Urban Meyer back at OSU and let Day go to A & M. I think both fan bases would be happy with that - even though I think Urban is a fraud and a dikk.

Dabo doesn't like people meddling in his program. He wants to run it HIS way.
This is even more of a display why he would never go to aTm.

I have had 2 sons and one daughter-in-law graduate from TAMU. Be careful with your descriptions of the University because it is pretty classy, reputable, and has a lot of similarities to Clemson.
Granted, their fan base wants a proven winner and preferably one who has one a National Championship. My problem with that is ... it is exactly what they said they wanted when they hired Jimbo with that ridiculous contract. And before we get too far away from the topic of money, if you think the boosters run things, well they do to some extent. However multiply that by 100 and you have the University of Texas.
What do I think of the Dabo rumors? If you read the reports, they are all loosey goosey and seem to be based on the notion that we are sick of Dabo in Tiger Nation. Hmmmm, I wonder who started that notion??? I think Dabo may consider the job and, if he goes, it will be because he prayed about it and felt it was God's will. I can list dozens of reasons why I think he will NOT go, but one is "Why go and clean up Jimbo's mess"?
Who do I think they should go after? Talent is not an issue. They need someone who will hire a staff that can out scheme and out coach opponents, but, more importantly, can make in-game adjustments. Right now, they do not seem capable of either. Not sure if he is right for this job, but Jamey Chadwell will someday be a star head coach if he takes the right job(s). Mike Elko is probably the best bet, if Ryan Day is not interested. Elko has transformed Duke, but has not been able to recruit/develop quality depth.
We shall soon see ...

Bailey, first off what a wonderful pic. That is one pooch in command!
I would not get too bent about comments about the university. Every university has the political mess with boosters and boards and so on. It’s more the norm. It is troubling that the AD and BOT had such a communication misstep. I’m sure they will rebound and get on the same page.
I personally think Elko would be a great hire. I think he’s a good guy and has coached in Texas. He would have an advantage with the recruiting landscape and the administration. Plus, he’s done a heck of a job at Duke. He’s make Duke a team of toughness. Good luck with the hire.
