I went for my 8th birthday, which would be 1965. Monty Dupuy, Mr Doohickey, ice cream & cartoons. Monty always had some killer hair.

I remember that guy on there that was bald except for a little patch of hair right in front. I think he was also a weatherman sometimes.

I was on the show probably in 1967-1969 ish. Was a good experience but I don't remember many of the details.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep - I think I was 5 years old - which would have been about 1965 as well.

I was. Monty used to ask you what was your name and home town. I was nervous and told him my name and that I was from SpartanburgSouthCarolina--(one word). My father made fun of me for years for saying it that way!

I remember they had a contest to win a Weiner Dog. You ahd to write a letter to say why you should win the dog. Our dog, Brownie, had just been run over and killed about a week earlier. I wrote the saddest letter a kid could write and was SURE I would win. But, I didn't.

My older brother got to go to the show. My parents said I would be afraid of Mr. Doohickey and wouldn't let me go.

Didn't Romper Room come on right after Monty's Rascals? They had the cardboard "cars" you stood in and walked around in a circle making car noises. And don't forget that Magic Mirror!

I was scared of Mr. Doohickey, so much that the lady from the humane society took me over to the side to play with the puppies. So my sister was on TV and I wasn't.

stations good, WFBC (NBC) chan 4 and WSPA (CBS) Spartanburg chan 7. WLOS (ABC) Asheville chan 13 was spotty, you could barely pull it in, moving the rabbit ears around, and it was still snowy. But you needed it for Mr Bill in the morning before school because they showed the Three Stooges.

I was on several times starting when I was about 4 - 5 in the early to mid 60's. We were seated when my middle brother (younger) had to go to the bathroom. We both got up and ran off the set. Afterwards, we both ran back on the set and took our seats. I think Monty asked what we ran off for and I told him that my brother had to go to the bathroom. I believe he got a chuckle out of that.

Was not on the show but watched it some and knew about Stowe Hoyle's alter ego. Did watch his weather segments quite a bit. Seem to recall Monty broadcasting from Woods Lake a couple times. Lived behind the future location of Haywood Mall so was there numerous times in the late 50s early 60s as it was a short bike ride away.

How cool. In the cootlumbia area we had Jolly Jim, a western theme local show. Same format with toons and such. His side kick was Chief SillyHorse. Evil nemeses was JP Sidewinder. Early 60s on WIS. Another station had Stanley and the Stooges. A clown and of course showed 3 Stooges. Later, Mr Knozit( Joe Pinner) clean cut store tender who showed Little Rascles on WIS. Actually had Jay North(Dennis the Menice) on and James Durary( The Virginian) live. With a good antenna or go to our Grandparents in Barnwell, we could get Trooper Terry out of Augusta. WJBF Tall 12 Augusta. They were proud of their tower. He portrayed a Georgia Patrol Trooper. Really was one of the best. Amazing how most of them would show up giving weather forecast marking all over those weather maps with a giant grease pencil. Those really were the good old days!
