Mostly agree except MA and Vic.

Vic isn't an everydown DE. Shaq will be in the starting rotation at DE after game one, if not game one.

Kellen Jones and Tony Steward will push to start at LB. I think Alexander stays at CB and will start by mid-season.

he is a natural CB who will see a lot of playing time there, regardless of who is the starter. Frankly, especially after how thin we were last year, I like our depth at CB now with Jenkins, Peters, Robinson, and Breeland all having seen a good bit of quality PT, and with Alexander's talent behind them. Wish Cortez Davis would've stayed, but that's water under the bridge.
In the t-net article, it discussed Barnes being at DE opposite Crawford. If you thought our pass rush was bad last year, having a 270 lbs. guy who was originally supposed to play DT and who has 1 sack in his career over there isn't going to make things look any better. Barnes was only a Soph. last year, so he could improve, but he isn't a pass rusher, and unless Crawford steps up his pass-rush game, our DBs are going to be covering for a long time again. That's why I agree with TigerGrad11 that we're probably going to see Shaq Lawson playing most of the snaps overs there, and maybe rotating Beasley and Barnes in depending on the scenario.

I seriously doubt MA gets moved to safety.. The guy looks awesome on film, and has the work ethic to be great. That being said, he will stay at corner where it takes serious athleticism, and skill to lockdown that position. With Robert Smith, and Ronnie Geohaghan and then Cordrea Tankersly, Jadar Johnson, Korrin Wiggins, and Kearse all coming in this season there is no need for MA to not play the corner position.
I think Beasley is a stud at end, but he is not an every down end unless he puts on another 25ish lbs or so and plays around 260. He is a great 3rd down pass rusher with his spend around the end. Byers/Lawson will be competing for the other starting spot. My .02...

I think Beasley will surprise some people and put on 15 pounds of muscle this summer.

If he can put on 15 or so lbs of muscle this summer all while retaining his speed and quick first step, he may very well find himself starting opposite of Corey Crawford. Either way the kid is a physical specimen and will make an impact just like last year. Glad to see he finally found a home at end and isnt bouncing all over the field anymore.

I agree w you.. I think he is about maxed out now.. I dont know why he never got a look at LB before finding a spot at end. At the time, we were thin at LB and he coulda been a stud there w his 6'3 and 235 lb frame and quickness..

If he does then he starts. But MA is a shut down corner

If anything I'd expect Wiggins or Kearse to take the other starting safety spot before the year is over.

I think Kearse will definitely find himself playing considerable snaps if not starting by the end of the year. Smith seems a little undersized, and Kearse looks like a beast. Can you imagine a 6'4 210 safety roaming around looking to blast recievers coming over the middle and stepping up to stop the run. The future of our D looks bright.. Finally have some serious depth and talent again at all the positions.

I imagine Kearse will have blanks role from last year and will probably grow into a Sam LB in a year or two

I personally want to let Jenkins keep that spot as it's the best one for him. he's too small to be an outside CB but perfect for the NB position to stick with slot WRs.

Yeah but then he becomes a liability against the run, having guys like kearse and blanks there give you guys who can cover but can also fill running gaps like a LB. I really think were going to see kearse get to 230-240 and end up at sam or will

Why on earth would you think alexander would move to strong safety, no way in haitis that happens. Other than that and anthony at Sam you have it right. Vic beasley is going to have a coming out party in 13

Jones, Steward and Anthony can play all three spots
Mar 6, 2013, 4:13 PM

Steward will most likely go to MIKE, Anthony to WILL and Jones to Sam. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see all three on the field at the same time eventually next year.

That would definitely be the ideal 3...if it plays out like that it will really change our defense
