1987 was a pretty good year

we lost to NC State and S Car, but that trip to the Citrus Bowl was fun. Great weather and there was a bunch of Clemson fans around. You had to be around then to know that not many that went to school at that time would trade it for now even with all the success we've had lately. The team was 38-8-2 and we joked that Danny would lose one game a year and Rodney would lose one game a year, but all in all it 86-90 had to be one of the best times to be a student.

21-20.
Dooley lost that game and admitted it afterwards.
Sneak, sneak, sneak, punt. That is all he had to do to win that game.
Still hurts.

That was some great and fun years. Gator, 2 Citrus, Gator, and Hall of Fame Bowl during that span. I went to all 5.

Those were my years and yes it was a great time to be a student. Basketball had several good years during that time as well.

That is the 1 st game (N.C.State) I actually remember attending as a youngster. Our Iptay seats were on about the 10- 15 yard line near the hill on the North Lower deck. At that time , the visitors sit next to the hill for some reason, this led to many altercations back in the day.
The reason i remember this game still today is 1. The massive comeback attempt by I guess it was Rodney Williams coming out the second half of that game and basically becoming “ Air Rodney” . We threw the ball in the 2nd half that game more times than Danny had probably had his offense throw it in the previous 8 years.
2 . A drunk N.C. State fan repeatedly falling on us , and finally on my mother during half-time. That day that fellow lost most of his front teeth , courtesy of my father. The cops came and I was scared to death, however they didn’t even ask many questions as they could tell he was drunk and had many mini bottles with him. The funny part was an old lady getting mad at my father as she thought he knocked the guy out because of the game, Fortunately they moved the visitors to the other side about 4 or 5 years after that.
Those were fun years as we were more physical than any team we faced and pretty much just beat down teams even though they knew it was coming.

Great time to be a student

Mid to late 80's were the best. Great football, good basketball, good baseball, national championship in soccer. I had never attended a soccer game, or watched one on TV, before coming to Clemson but man those weeknight soccer games were fun. Sitting on 3rd base line at baseball games harassing the visiting team.
Bars were easy to get into, parties every weekend, fun days on the lake, intramural sports and no cell phones to record all the stupid stuff we did.
Dang I'm old.

'86 GA game, great bowls, Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, etc

I was also an 86-90 guy. Agreed - great time to be at Clemson. Football was the top reason (well I guess to get an education too) - but don't forget some great concerts during that time - Stones in Death Valley, Def Leppard, others I'm probably forgetting...
And the 86 GA game between the hedges. Beautiful.

it was a sad ride home. But those were glory years.
Funny seeing how nonchalant Danny was about touching The Rock (the non-vandalized WHOLE Rock) vs. how Dabo makes a show of it.
Great memories. Thank you.

YES! '87 was a pretty good year, but how about '89??

Was '89 an even better year?? #1 Defense in the nation, beat coots 45-0 in cooterville, beat West Virginia so bad in the Gator Bowl, the QB's mother was concerned for her son's health (TRUE story), bball was ACC Reg Season Champs & made the Sweet 16, baseball won 50 games & won ACC tourney, women's bball made the Sweet 16, track & field was great, and the 100 year anniversary activities made us all a part of the milestone...
'89 was definitely a great year!!
