We all have to be impressed with the 2nd Half tonight. Turned into a dog fight and we overcame an eleven point deficit in a defensive ball game.
Scar was MUCH better than I thought. I figured they might be after Grand Canyon (maybe their best win) beat San Diego St last night. Bj Mack and Meechie aren't bad at all. As a whole, they were quick and defensively solid. Luckily, they didn't shoot the ball well most of the night.
Clemson's balance and depth shined tonight. The box score was a thing of beauty with all five starters in double figures. I mention depth because there wasn't much fall off playing without Hemenway and Clark- can't wait to get those guys back.
A couple things I noticed:
● One quick negative was that we often fell into a lull in half court offense of not moving without the ball. We've been better than that most of this year.
● Chase Hunter didn't have a stellar night but he broke his cold streak by attacking the rim on several occasions and that's a great way to get your confidence back. Evidently it paid off with a huge 3 at the end of the game.
● I was so critical of Wiggins taking those 3s Sunday and then... BAM. They've obviously given him the green light. Like one of the commentators said "Career high in points and we needed every one of them"
● Beadle is so quick. He can get to the rim so effortlessly at times. I feel there's so much talent there. I sincerely hope there's a breakthrough at some point and he cleans up his game and earns more minutes.
● Lastly, Schieffelin... words just don't do it justice to what he means to the team. He IS Clemson Grit.
I've been following Clemson since the early 90s (Sharone Wright, Christ Whitney, Cliff Ellis days). We've had better teams (athletically, talent wise) but this group seems to have some of those intangibles that make a team special. And they may be the most complete team We've had in some time with shooters, post players, solid guard play, defense, depth, etc
