Get a divorce decree, something I do almost daily. Got the guy's marriage license, also something I do daily. Both in XXXXXX County.

Look and notice something. Divorce decree is dated AFTER the guy died. ALSO, it's after his most recent marriage date as well. Now, where the judge signed it, she indicated that from the "email chain"..."it appears" the decree would have been signed some time in August of 2018. BUT, they have no way to confirm the date it was signed, so she signed it in 7/2023.

I can't make this stuff up, really. Just imagine being the wife, knowing you will be cared for as the guy's wife, only to find out some incompetent COURT OF LAW screwed up your marriage.

Anyway........not my job to fix this problem, I just point it out.

That judicial reform item on the ballot this year, check yes, 10 times over. SC is a legal laughing stock in so many areas. I'm sure 3 more lawyers and another judge or two can figure the above crap out, but it shouldn't be like this IMO.

I've seen the people lie, lie on marriage license applications, or lie about being divorced, but I've never seen the court screw up. So this is a first for me.

AND ANOTHER THING.......If your name is common, like say John Smith, and someone has to find your divorce decree (because the Probate Courts are slack), PLEASE put SOMETHING in the file like a DOB, last 4 of the SSN, or SOMETHING to positively identify the plaintiff AND the defendant. I have seen court cases, gone through the ENTIRE FILE, and found NOTHING to positively identify either party. Could have been the guy, or maybe not. Who knows.
