Son of Arkansas head coach says Clemson offer is a blessing

Chandler Morris is no stranger to Clemson or head coach Dabo Swinney, so spending a few days back in Clemson with the Tigers’ head coach was a walk down memory lane. Getting an offer to play quarterback for Clemson? That was a bonus.

Morris, the 2020 Dallas (TX) Highland Park signal caller, is the son of former Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris. Chad Morris left Clemson to become the head coach at SMU but became the head coach at Arkansas in December.

Chad Morris coached at Clemson from 2011-2014 and Chandler grew up next door to Swinney and his three sons, Will, Drew and Clay. His first trip back to Clemson in a few years showed him how much things have changed.

“It was a little weird but exciting to see everyone and to see how much the facilities have changed,” Morris told TigerNet. “It’s incredible, the facilities are best in the country I believe.”

During one drill, Swinney told Morris that the only reason he hired Chad was so he could one day have a shot at signing Chandler. Morris said that was just Dabo being Dabo.

“It was funny. But it just shows how close I am with him and his family and the relationship coach and I have,” he said.

Getting an offer wasn’t funny – it was a dream come true.

“So I talked to coach Swinney last night before I left and he said now you know you have a spot here and I’d love for you to play for me,” Morris said. “I didn’t think anything of it until I called my dad later and he told me he talked to Coach Swinney Tuesday night, and Coach Swinney said he was extremely impressed with me and wants to be my first offer now.

“It feels amazing just knowing that someone believes in my talent and the countless hours I’ve put in to have success it’s a blessing to get it.”

Most would think that Morris would want to play for his dad, but he says he is keeping all of his options open, including a place he once called home.

“I will get to choose where I want to go but I will definitely look at other schools,” he said. “Clemson has always been a place I’d love to go to.”
