Dabo Swinney has struck the state of Alabama once again landing a verbal commitment from American Christian wide receiver Jeffery Ogren. Ogren had offers from Clemson, Central Florida, and Tulane, it came down to just two schools.
“There was a lot of schools that were showing interest. Clemson stepped with an offer, and they let me know they wanted me. I talked with Coach Knox from Auburn earlier this week. He told me that it would be later in the year before they could offer me. I really liked Clemson, and I knew there was another receiver that was close to committing to them, so I wanted to make my decision before they were full.” Ogren received an offer from Clemson following a camp he attended in June. “The camp was great. I had a lot of fun. The campus was great, and I knew when I left Clemson was going to be one of my top schools. Coach Swinney came up to me after the camp and told me he wanted to offer me.” So how does Ogren feel about his decision? “Man, I just so pumped right now. It is going to be a great place to play for the next four years. Coach Swinney is awesome. I cannot wait to start working with him. He is Alabama guy too, so that is pretty cool. He is a great person who really cares about his players.” Ogren hopes he will not be coming to Clemson alone. He knows the Tigers are close to offering his teammate Chris Smelley. “Clemson is very close to offering Chris. I know they are very high on him, but they are still looking at some things. Chris is very high on Clemson. He has told me that Clemson is higher on his list than LSU and some of the other schools that have offered him. If Clemson offered him, I would not be surprised if he committed as well. I think he is one of the most talented quarterbacks out there, and I really hope things work out where we can play together at the next level.” Ogren becomes the eight verbal commitment for the class of 2006. It is likely the receiver he was hinting at making a decision was Kenrick Johnson, although Ogren could not confirm. Johnson is expected to be returning to Clemson as early as this weekend.
