One of the fastest rising prospects in the Carolinas is Andrews High School's Marcus Gilchrist. Gilchrist has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, among others.
Michigan offered Gilchrist last week. "Michigan was my most recent offer. They want me to come up there for a visit. After talking with Coach (Lloyd) Carr, I will probably take a trip up there. I want to see as many schools as I can. This is an important decision, and I want to see my options." Gilchrist loves making the big play. He had 11 interceptions last season, and seven kick returns for touchdowns. "It is a great feeling to make a big play that turns the game around. If you make an interception, when your opponent is driving, you can just feel the momentum change. There is nothing like returning a kick for a touchdown. If you are on the road, you can hear the crowd get quiet as you race down the field." Billy Napier is recruiting Gilchrist for the Tigers. Coach Napier was one of the first to offer Gilchrist. "Clemson was one of the first schools to offer me. Coach Napier has a good connection with my family. I know Tye Hill is going to be a first round draft pick from Clemson this year, and they had Justin Miller last year go pretty high." Gilchrist did not list any favorites, nor did he give a timeframe for his decision.
