Height: 6-2 Weight: 185 Hometown: North Charleston, SC (Dorchester HS) Class: 2006
Byron Maxwell was one of the top five prospects in South Carolina for 2006. Maxwell could have challenged for the top spot had he not torn his ACL.
When Maxwell attended Clemson's camp as a junior, the staff believed then that he was the best player at the camp. Running backs coach Burton Burns went to work on Maxwell very early. The Tigers were an early favorite with Maxwell along with Georgia. Maxwell is still recovering from his injury, but he may finish his rehab by running track this spring. If he is able to return to form, he is going to be a tremendous pickup for the Tigers. The doctors expect a full recovery for Maxwell, but history tells us it is normally the second year after surgery when a player fully recovers. Maxwell can be a special player. It is rare to find 6-3 corners that are actually corners. Maxwell can be a cover corner, and he will fit well under Koenning's system. Cornerback is the biggest question mark heading into the spring, so there may be a chance come August for Maxwell to make a splash. Freshman Forecast: 50/50
