by - Assoc. Editor -

The Arizona Cardinals announced Sunday they have released defensive end Andre Branch.

Branch was signed by the Cardinals in July and the team was hoping to see him fit in at outside linebacker.

NFL teams have to trim down their roster to only 53 players by Saturday afternoon.

The former Clemson product had played the last three years with the Miami Dolphins and was drafted in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.

He has 25.5 career sacks, forcing eight fumbles and breaking up 14 passes at the NFL-level.

The Richmond, Virginia product was a finalist for the Hendricks Award and a second-team All-American as a senior at Clemson, tallying 10.5 sacks and a team-best 17 tackles for loss. He posted 17.5 sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss over his time as a Tiger.
