CLEMSON – Florida St.’s Steven Wells homered on a 1-2 pitch with two out in the top of the 13th inning late Saturday night, sending No. 15 Florida St. to a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Clemson in the first of a three-game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The homer came on pitch No. 86 of the night from Ryley Gilliam, who pitched four wonderful innings in relief but still takes the loss. Florida St. improves to 32-14 overall and 14-10 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 34-12 overall and 17-8 in the ACC.

The loss ends Clemson’s eight-game winning streak, including six in a row in the ACC.

Clemson missed out on a golden chance to tie the score in the bottom of the 13th. Logan Davidson walked to lead off the frame, and Seth Beer's bouncer was thrown away at first. Davidson stumbled at second and then broke for third but was thrown out at the base. After a lengthy review, the call stood, leaving Beer at second with one out. Chris Williams popped up on the infield for the second out and Kyle Wilkie flew out to right to end the game.

The win is No. 1,976 for FSU head coach Mike Martin, who now stands alone as the winningest coach in college baseball history.
