Watson ranked outside of Top 20 prospects by Todd McShay |
McShay released his preseason rankings of the
top college football players for the 2017 NFL draft on Tuesday morning and junior quarterback
Deshaun Watson was #21 on the list with an evaluation grade of 88.
"A dynamic playmaker, Watson has the ability to throw from the pocket and extend plays with his mobility," McShay said. "At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, he lacks ideal size and will need to adjust to a pro-style system, but Watson has the tools to develop into a good starter in the NFL if developed and used properly." Watson completed 333 of 491 passes for 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns and also had 207 rushes for 1105 yards and 12 scores this past season. His 5,209 yards of total offense and his 47 total touchdowns were ACC records, and his rushing total was a record for a Clemson quarterback. His 487 yards of total offense set a record for a National Championship game, and he is the first quarterback in FBS history to have at least 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. The Top 32 prospects according to McShay were RB Leonard Fournette, DE Jonathan Allen, DT Malik McDowell, DE Myles Garrett, DE Dawaune Smoot, S Jamal Adams, OLB Tim Williams, CB Jordan Thomas, OLB Devonte Fields, DE Charles Harris, RB Dalvin Cook, ILB Reuben Foster, RB Christian McCaffrey, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, DE Derek Barnett, OT Cam Robinson, DT Charles Walker, OG Quenton Nelson, OT Mike McGlinchey, CB Jalen Tabor, QB Deshaun Watson, OLB Jalen Reeves-Maybin, QB Brad Kaaya, OT Roderick Johnson, DT Caleb Brantley, OLB Jarrad Davis, TE O.J.
