Watson ranked #1 in SI.com's Heisman Watch |
SI.com released its
latest Heisman Watch list and Clemson sophomore quarterback
Deshaun Watson was ranked the #1 player in college football followed by Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Alabama running back Derrick Henry.
Deshaun Watson had another impressive performance in leading his #1 ranked team to a 45-37 victory over #10 North Carolina on Saturday night. Watson threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 131 yards and two scores to set ACC Championship records for total yards and touchdowns. "Many forget Watson is just a true sophomore, one that suffered a torn ACL in 2014," SI.com said. "That should make the quarterback’s season that much more remarkable. Plus, Watson was at his best against North Carolina in the ACC title game, Clemson’s biggest stage of the season. That’s what Heisman winners do. Add in the Tigers’ ascension to the No. 1 spot in the playoff, and Watson stands the best chance of taking home the trophy." For the season, Watson has 3512 passing yards with 30 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also has 163 carries for 887 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 2015.
