Spurrier: "Clemson was better than us"

by - Assoc. Editor -

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier talked to the media after his team's 35-17 loss to Clemson.

“I told the guys, ‘6-6 might be what we are," Spurrier said. "Clemson was better than us. They played better and they coached better. Give those guys credit, they are better than us. They are a better team than we are. Simple as that. Obviously, we could have won some we lost and lost some we won. That's where they are, and they'll try to win the bowl.” Spurrier said.

He discussed the pitch plays that Clemson had so much success with Artavis Scott on the edge. “We've given up some long ones before, but we didn't stop those two shovel passes," Spurrier said.

Spurrier was also a little disappointed on the Vic Beasley sack and strip that was a crucial momentum changer in the game. "That was a careless play on his (Thompson) part. He said he didn’t feel the guy," Spurrier said.

"Give Clemson's defense credit. They are the best in the country and they played like the best."

"They are a good team. It looks like they could beat just about anybody."
