Mike Williams won't run 40-yard dash at NFL Combine

Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams has the opportunity to possibly be the first wide receiver taken off the board in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft. However, on Friday, he told reporters that he will skip the 40-yard dash to run it instead at Clemson's pro day at March 16.

"Long season," Williams said about not running via ESPN.com. "I haven't had much time to prepare for it, so I'm going to take this week and next week to prepare for it and run it at my pro day."

Williams was asked if a slow 40-time by him would hurt his draft status.

"I don't think so, at all," Williams said. "Jerry Rice didn't run a fast time. Antonio Brown didn't run a fast time. He's the highest-paid receiver in the league right now. It's all about just playing football if you look at it at the end of the day."

In 2016, Williams had 98 receptions for 1361 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had 177 catches for 2727 yards and 21 touchdowns (and his degree) during his collegiate career at Clemson.

Reportedly, Williams has already met with the Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin and the Bills on Thursday and has an appointment to meet the Cowboys and Bears on Friday night. In other Clemson NFL draft news, tight end Jordan Leggett has a meeting with the Patriots coaching staff tonight.
