Clemson WR to enter 2018 NFL draft |
This should come as no shocker as another member of 'WRU' is headed to the NFL.
Clemson junior wide receiver Deon Cain will enter the 2018 NFL draft as first reported by ESPN and now confirmed by school officials on Wednesday morning. In 2017, Cain had 58 receptions for 734 yards (12.7 ypc) and six touchdowns and was named as a third-team All-ACC performer. In his final game against Alabama, he had six catches for 75 yards including a long of 19. For his college career, he had 130 receptions for 2040 yards and 20 scores. Cain's NFL projection is around a mid-round pick as teams will be intrigued by his athleticism and could take a flyer on his untapped potential as he is just a few years removed from playing quarterback in high school. Cain could slide up draft boards with an impressive NFL combine showcasing that he has reliable hands that occasionally plagued him on routine plays during his college career. The Tigers will also lose Cain's teammate and friend, junior playmaker Ray Ray McCloud III to the NFL draft. However, next man up will be the mantra for Clemson's 'WRU' group that has many talented young players such as Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, T.J. Chase, and Diondre Overton ready to step up in 2018. Other Clemson players to declare for the 2018 NFL draft include safety Van Smith and offensive lineman Taylor Hearn. Just spoke with Dabo Swinney about Clemson's underclassmen. Deon Cain will enter NFL draft. Swinney plans to meet with Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell & others in the next few days and decisions likely by end of the week.
