Kelly Bryant injury update

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about starting quarterback Kelly Bryant's status in the ESPN halftime interview of the Clemson-Syracuse game.

Swinney said, "it looks like he has got a concussion."

Bryant was laying on the ground for several minutes before being helped off the field before halftime.

He went into the game with an ankle injury and was seen hobbling between and during plays the entire first half.

He completed his first nine throws and finished 12-of-17 passing for 166 yards. His four rushes went for minus-8 yards.

With his team down 17-14 at the half, Swinney assessed what he saw from the Tigers.

"We are not handling anything very well right now," Swinney said. "They just flat out out-played us in every phase. Just disappointed. Missed some opportunities. We are out of rhythm on offense. Behind the chains on just about every series. Defensively, they have made big plays on us, so we got a lot to get in here and fix.

"This is a good football team, and they flat outplayed us, so we got a long ways to go and a lot to correct."

Backup quarterback Zerrick Cooper started the game after halftime.

The Wren (S.C.) product injured his left ankle on a scoring drive midway through the third quarter of Clemson-Wake Forest, with the Tigers taking a 21-0 lead. He didn't return to action and Clemson went on to a 28-14 victory. Bryant conducted postgame interviews in a walking boot.

"I didn't want to force it and make it worse than it was," Bryant said. "so we tried sideline running on it and it wasn't feeling too good so I didn't wanna rush it and try to get back out there and hurt myself more."

Bryant was 21-for-29 passing for 200 passing yards with a passing touchdown and an interception in the game.

Bryant's 67.3 completion rate ranks in the top-20 nationally, throwing for 1,259 passing yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions. He leads Clemson in rushing with 401 yards and seven touchdowns.
