Former Clemson WR suffers torn ACL

Former Clemson wide receiver and Indianapolis Colts rookie Deon Cain suffered a season-ending torn ACL in preseason action on Thursday, his coach announced Friday.

Cain had been a standout in camp early after a surprisingly low sixth-round selection in the NFL draft.

"Really unfortunate, obviously," Colts coach Frank Reich said in a conference call with reporters. "He was having a great camp... Big, big loss...He'll come back faster and stronger next year."

Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni said early in camp that Cain has the ability to make some moves at the NFL level.

“I think sometimes in wide receivers we focus so much on speed, speed, speed, speed and what’s impressive about him is that he can really get out of breaks,” Sirianni told Colts.com. “To me, that’s what separates really good receivers in this league. Yeah, they’ve got to be fast, but when those guys are fast and then they can separate at the top of the route and create big throws, he’s that to me. He can separate at the top.”
