Auburn coach updates starting RB status |
Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn said Thursday night that junior starting running back Kerryon Johnson hasn't practiced all week.
Johnson suffered a hamstring injury during a monster first-half versus Georgia Southern in Auburn's opener, rushing for 136 yards on 16 carries. "We're hoping to get him back in the near future," Malzahn said on his weekly radio show "Tiger Talk." Johnson was Auburn's starting tailback and also a kick returner last season, totaling 895 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns. He rushed for 94 yards with a touchdown in last year's Clemson home opener. Fellow junior and co-starter Kamryn Pettway (6-0 235) is returning from suspension for the Clemson trip. Pettway rushed for 1,224 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games last season, but did not play versus Clemson.
