Do we need to start padding our schedule?

May 31, 2010, 9:32 PM

we had the 11th hardest schedule per the RPI and had a pretty much equal RPI as the coots, beat them head to head 2 of 3 (for years we always heard how they would dominate us if the teams played a real 3 game series with starting pitching but that wasn't the case) won our Division but we didn't sniff hosting. If you assume the seeding follows into the #2 seeds, we are like the 24th seeded team and they are 12th. Our Division that we won, won the season series vs the SEC including 5 of 7 vs their top 2 in the SEC east by our top 2.

The coots played 3 teams with RPIs in the bottom 20% of the country. Do we need to start doing the same?

Very interesting post/question.***

we could add one 3 game series vs a 260 RPI team

May 31, 2010, 9:37 PM

and that'd make us 41-18 now, making us get over the proverbial 40 win threshold.

their strength of schedule was around 50 I think

which is way lower than ours.

or.. just don't get swept by Elon, or lose to Western or

No. I say we just beat Furman, Western Carolina and Elon.

May 31, 2010, 9:55 PM

That oughta do it.

Also ... Duke, WFU, and Charlotte ***

No , but the NCAA should take these easy OOC schedules

May 31, 2010, 11:49 PM

into consideration and not give out host sites to the teams who play such poor schedules.

they do it in football when considering the bowls, do it in baseball for hosting.

and then they give the Coots one of the worse teams in the entire tournament to play in the 1st game.

#### someone must know something on somebody on the board who selects the teams for the regions

One of the biggest differences between Tanner and Leggett

Jun 1, 2010, 9:48 AM

has been scheduling. Leggett has always elected to play a much a tougher OOC schedule while Tanner likes to load up on a host of cream puff OOC opponents. At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong answer. Both have been successful with their respective scheduling strategies.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

That said... Tanner has shown a a slight turn in that

philosophy... at least this year by scheduling ECU out of conference... early in the season.

But I agree with everything you've said. Both have been very successful. Historically when USC goes to the CWS, they don't go 0-2 against tougher competition.

The biggest complaint I have is that we have never won a road Super-Regional. I don't know if scheduling would effect that... but something has to change that if we hope to go to the CWS.

We didn't do so well against the teams that were supposed to pad the thing.
