Great turnout tonight, but some problems need to be fixed

It was nice to see Littlejohn packed tonight, but there are a few problems with student tickets that absolutely must be addressed.
First, the line outside Littlejohn was impressive, but there's no reason to wait an hour before the game before giving out student tickets. The place didn't get fully packed until about 5 minutes into the game as students were still filing in. Student ticket distribution should be handled earlier, whether it be earlier in the day or in the days before the game itself.
Second, we need to do something about the poor turnout by fans with seats behind the bench. The least we could do is give those seats to students if their owners don't show. I think a better solution would be to hand that entire section over to the students. We had a lot of enthusiastic fans tonight who would have killed for those seats. It would increase homecourt advantage and would show OP that we are serious about supporting a top-notch basketball program. It also looks great on TV and would signal to the country that we are for real.

There is no reason why this still shouldn't be the case. Most IPTAY donors agree with this. Littlejohn is a great arena for basketball that could be even better. Purnell needs to stand up to someone about this.

it was all changed when they redid the arena

Shyatt era had one side
When they redid the place, they took student from under the posts and the one side, (well one large section of the benchside) and put them all behind the goals.
Then they finally put us under the goalposts again on bleachers the year after I graduated.

Another major problem with tickets...

Grad students should get free tickets too. I am just as broke as any undergrad. Nobody is louder than me. I can get around the rules for football tix, but it pisses me off that for some reason I have to pay for a ticket just because I am a grad student and not an undergrad.

Grad students give money back to the university in other ways, we should always get free tickets like any undergrad.

In fact, we talked about this earlier tonight. How much did your ticket end up being? I wound up paying the $21 so I wouldn't have to wait in that line.

We can't get an employee parking pass, but we can't get free student tickets. But the discount's better than nothing, I guess.

Undergrads don't get free tickets. They pay an activities fee.
You may want to contact the president of the Graduate Student Association and ask him/her to voice your concern.
Your argument could also be extended to faculty which pay for tickets.

Clemson Basketball Ticket Distribution Guidelines
* These guidelines only affect students who wish to camp out prior to a men's basketball game or join the line prior to the gates opening. If you show up when the gates open one hour prior to the game or after the gates have opened, these policies will not affect you.
* Line formation will begin at 1:00 pm the day before each home game. The line will begin at the student gate of Littlejohn on the Southeast corner between the annex and Coliseum. The line cannot form toward the East Box Office windows. If necessary, the line will need to extend toward the football stadium.
* A representative from the Clemson University Athletic Department will be present to conduct check-in when the line officially begins at 1:00 PM. Any line formed prior to that time will have no merit as to who was there first. For example, if three people are there at 1:00 pm when the line may begin, the first person that was there may not necessarily be granted the first position in line. In this case, the order of the line will be decided randomly by drawing numbers. Therefore, there is no advantage to being in line before it begins. There is no "unofficial" line.
* The initial check-in will be from 1 pm - 2 pm the day before a game and will take place at the student gate of Littlejohn. Only one member of each group is required to be at check-in. Groups can be no larger than 10 people each. However, it is not necessary to be a part of a group, it is just a policy that will allow students to attend classes and still have a good spot in line.
* When checking-in, groups are required to list each group member's name and CUID number. Members cannot add on to or change a group later and all group members' information must be turned in at the same time. All group members in the Collegiate Club line must be members and will need to display their Collegiate Club card to receive their ticket. For example, a group of eight people will need at least one person at check-in. This person will have the names of all eight group members and their CUID numbers to register their group.
* If a group shows up after initial registration, they will fall in line behind those who have already registered. During random roll calls, group information (names and CUID numbers) will be gathered from the new groups in line and will be collected all the way up until the gates open. Please do not bring your group information to the Ticket Office.
* From the hours of 8am-10pm, there needs to be at least 1 person in line for every group. For safety reasons, there needs to be 2 people for every group from the hours of 10pm to 8am. There will be random roll calls for all groups to insure that there is the proper number of people in line at all times. If no one is present, the group will lose their spot in line.
* All of your personal items and belongings need to be picked up 30 minutes prior to the gates opening. There will be no storage inside Littlejohn Coliseum, so please arrange to place it in your car or have it picked up. Keep in mind that parking lots around Littlejohn Coliseum are reserved two hours prior to tip-off. This includes parking along the road in front of the Coliseum. Also, all trash, food and drinks must be discarded in the proper trash receptacles at this time. Non-compliance will result in your group moving to the end of the line. At this point, a formal line will be formed.
* When each group reaches the door of the student line, all group members must be present. If only some of the group members are present, only those tickets will be handed out. The group members who are not present will need to go to the back of the line when they arrive.
* All university regulations apply during this time. For more information about these regulations, please see the Student Handbook .

Most seats right behind the bench aren't sold

Those are either the visitor school seats that are purchased or comp. tickets, or they are the comp. tickets behind our bench for family and friends of the team and staff. Now it does move around where they put the family, but usually that section right behind our bench is related to the ath. dept in some way.

My nephew just graduated UNC - Chapel Hill (boo - my wife is a UNC grad also - so I don't boo too loud).
They distribute tickets electronicly over the internet.
It evidently makes life much easier, but he thought it reduced the students' excitement for games.

I have been attending Tiger BB for over 50 years and strongly agree. In addition to the problem you surfaced, there will be light blue and dark blue in those seats any time Duke and UNC are in the house. The owners of those tickets, mostly corporate who are giving the tickets to clients, will tell you that they will give their tickets to whom they choose. I think giving students up to the rail would solve that problem--then you must figure out how to handle the games when students are not in town. My solution would be to make those student seats open seating for those games and let anyone sit there.

on the floor because of obnoxious behavior and language to the opposing team. Another example of the many punished for the crimes of the few.
